The heavenly angels gladly and completely do the bidding of God. Psalm 103:20-21 states, "Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. Bless ye the LORD, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure." Their purpose is to do His commandments, hearken to His voice, and do His pleasure. That is, they have the freedom to remain in that holy estate into which they were placed by creation or to leave their first estate for a lower one. "And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day" (Jude 1:6). Clearly, they are not robots unable to do anything but obey God. their condition is not like that of man. Man can be redeemed from his fallen state by the applied blood of Jesus Christ. The fallen angels have no means by which they can return to their first estate after they leave it. They will all be cast into the "everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels" (Matthew 25:41). Also, there is no mix of obedience with disobedience in the angels as there often is in regenerate man. The angels in heaven perform the commandments of God with full obedience (Psalm 103:20-21). The fallen angels are simply "the angels that sinned" (2Peter 2:4). No good is seen in them.

Mike was right about them serving God, but that's only the faithful ones. Obviously, even though they're spirits, they have a personality and free will just like humans. Notice Jude ( right before Revelation) verse 6 says " And the angels that did not keep their original position but forsook their own dwelling place he has reserved with eternal bonds under dense darkness for the judgement of the great day."

well seeing as lucifer rebelled. i would say thats pretty free will for him to be able to sin.

however on the contrary, angels can no longer involve themselves in human affairs, and satan cant do anything without gods permission. therefore there are restrictions.

bible says no sin or sadness in heaven. so obviously when we die we wont have complete free will either.

depends on how u want to look at it.

yes they do have free will.

If you go to the book of Exodus in the old testament, you will find the story of Moses and his leading the children of Israel out of bondage to Egypt. The part when Moses dies shows us the free will of the angels very clearly.

The angels were discussing their different opinions of what they should do with Moses earthly body. They could not come to an agreeable solution within themselves, so God took Moses body and buried it in a secret place, so that the children of Israel would not find it and worship it.

Yes. The devil dragged a third of the angels of heaven, and it hurled them down to the earth. This means not all of them are good.

Islam says that only humans and devils have free will, whereas angels carry out God's will and obey Him

Judaism says absolutely NOT, and that includes the angel called Lucifer. According to Judaism, Satan does God's will and has no will at all of his own.

That's one of those contradictions. They're not supposed to have free will, but the devil was an angel too.

Yes,

One even is reported to stood up to God himself and waged a war against heaven...

That Angel was God's "best and brightest", and his "most trusted Angel".... the original "Right Hand Man".

He is said to have replied "...that he would rather Rule in Hell for eternity than serve one more in Heaven."
