I'm trying to figure out at what age is it healthy for a child to weigh 83 lbs. well I guess maybe the sex of the child matters to, so say if a girl weighs 83 lbs, how old should she be to be concidered healthy at that weight. ex a 6 year old shouldn't weigh 128,maybe a 16 year old. thank you

Uhhh ... 21?

No, seriously ... I weigh 90 lbs.

I'm not anorexic or anything. I'm just REALLY short. So by law, I should have been using a booster seat until I was 13. That's when I hit 4'2". At least that's how it is in Louisiana.

So I guess my answer is, it REALLY depends on height. Every time I switched doctors they would freak when they read my weight was at the 2nd percentile. Lower on the page it finally said my height. So ... you need to find a calculator online, or ask your doctor what formula he/she uses, to determine whether this child is actually at a healthy weight. A good one will use height as more of an indicator than age, but still take age into account.

This one does that:
http://pediatrics.about.com/cs/growthcharts2/l/bl_ibw_calc.htm

Plug in your child's information on each page and it'll tell you what you want to know.

You can also do it backwards.

Use this one for a female ... but it doesn't consider age a factor. This is okay, since height really matters more. However, it was originally intended for use on adults:

Ideal Body Weight (in kilograms) = 49 kg + 1.7 kg for each inch over 5 feet

You can also subtract 1.7 kilograms for each inch UNDER five feet. This is just a general range ... it should be correct within ten pounds, + or -.

Convert pounds to kilograms via Google search ... type in "X pounds in kilograms" and it will convert it for you, so that you know how many kilograms to plug into the formula.

If you want to find the ideal weight AND height range for a given age (I guess just play with it until your result is the age you're looking for ... I'd say start with 7 years and go up a year til you hit 83), use this:
http://www.medindia.net/patients/calculators/Height_Weight_ForChildren.asp

According to that, an average-height female should weigh 83 pounds by about age 11.5. Age 11 gives about 79, and age 12 gives about 86. So she should hit that weight during the year she's 11 years old if she's average height (meaning at the 50th percentile). That's nearly 5 feet tall. So obviously, if she's shorter or taller than that, it changes.

Use those formulas to figure it, if you want to know the math behind it.

It really depends on the child's build. My seven year old for example weighs in at 72 lbs, but she is also VERY tall.....(not sure about the inches, but I am almost 6 ft and the top of her head is above my boobs now! She is somewhere between 4 1/2ft and 5 ft right now. She has consistently been above the 110 percentile on the doctors growth charts for height and weight. What you need to look at is not the age, but the build of the child. Ask yourself some serious questions. Is this child quite literally fat? (my daughter isn't by any means and she is the youngest and tallest in her class) What is the activity level of the child? Does he/she sit around playing video games, watching TV or do you have a very active involved child? Weight doesn't necessarily indicate healthy! If you have any concerns, contact your doctor!

Well-it depends on how tall the child is too. The law requires a child to be 8 or weigh 80 lbs to be out of a car seat so.......I would guess 8-9 depending on how tall they are. My 9 year old is about 70 lbs, but he is very short for his age, and on the slim side.

All depends. I have a 9 yr old who is 4'6" and 79lbs. But he is extremely athletic. He's short but very muscular from Wrestling and football. I also have a 5 yr old girl who weighs 85lbs. I was concerned about her weight but Dr says she's fine because she is so tall. She's about 4ft. I wouldn't worry. There's some tiny teenagers that weigh that. My 13yr old is 5'5" and 130 and she tiny and wears a size 3. Everyone's bodies are different.

My grandmother weighed 85 lbs before she died at 78.... of course I guess that wasn't very healthy, since she died and all....

Anyhow, I suggest you rephrase the question. There are height and weight charts plastered all over the internet if you want a quicker solution then waiting for an answer here.
