Rain water is leaking into the drivers side of my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. This has just recently started. You can see the water falling from the dash to the floor just inboard of where the hood release is. I wonder if this is the weatherstripping around the door above the door or the windsheild or what?

My guess would be the windshield. If you can get someone to help you you could find it with a garden hose.Have someone get inside, turn on your garden hose and starting at the lowest possible point of entry. Running water where you think it is coming in at. Keep in mind the water could enter at the top of the windshield or door and travel down a bit before coming into the cab of the vehicle. Just slowly work your way up until you locate the spot.

A fair amount of Cherokees of this vintage have the very problem you are describing here. Usually it's a failure in the windshield seal. Fortunately it is also usually an easy and inexpensive fix. Take a run down to your local auto glass shop and have them check it out. A simple reseal will solve the problem in most cases.

On a damp day, with you positioned under the dash, looking up, doors closed, windows up, have a helper hose the outside left of your car and see if you observe water seeping through.

Duuuuhhhh!! Instead of wondering, why don't you take it to the dealer and have a qualified mechanic look at it? What's the matter? TOO CHEAP!!
