I KNOW not all Christians are like this. I know hardly anyone is like -this-...but this is what turns some people away from religion.

I was just looking if anyone had any more information on this lady and her church that I can research, or anybody's ideas about how to handle people like this in case I ever meet one face to face.

this group are so far from christianity its not even funny. im not even christian and this offends me. what a way to make other christians look. so sad.

in my opinion they just want attention. they were brainwashed by their leader that proclaiming hate in gods name is a "righteouss" thing to do. boy are they in for a suprise when judgement time comes around

revelations says, that many who claim to be christian will be stuck here, while true christians are taken up. basically there are christians who are decieved and think they are doing the right thing. these people apparently have no mind of their own.

their website, is www.godhatesfags.com

it kind of explains a bit about where they come up with verses for proclaiming hate. however it seems to me they take things way out of context. i cant imagine Jesus would be holding a sign with them....

Westboro Baptist Church, run by Fred Phelps. Website: www.godhatesfags.com. Most members are relatives of Phelps.

Phelps is a disbarred lawyer. He was disbarred for certain activities in court (see Wikipedia article below for more). The lady you are talking about is probably Shirley Phelps Roger

What's with the "God hates fags" sign?

I know smoking is bad for you - but surely there are more important topics!

This is a "revolt against reason". For further research I would read "The Open Society and its Enemies" by K R Popper. Now this was about an earlier revolt against reason (the Nazis) but is very, very, relevant to what we see today both in terms of Christian fundamentalists in the USA and Islamic fundamentalists in the Middle East.

I am ashamed that she calls herself a Christian. There is a scripture in the Bible that talks about people who stand before Jesus and say, "Lord, we prophesied in your name. We preached in your name." And Jesus will reply to them, Depart from me, you workers of iniquity. I never knew you. (Loosely translated by me). People like this woman and the ignorant fools who were holding up those signs are exactly what that scripture refers to. You are not gonna see me get animated much in this forum but that straight up p---sses me off. How DARE someone use the word GOD and HATE in the same sentence. Only thing God hates is sin and even HE never openly shamed someone to bring their sin to light. Jesus met the need of their life FIRST, THEN he told them to go and sin no more. No wonder there are so many atheists in this world. Because of people like this who give Christianity a bad name.

They have a website - they are the Westborough Baptist Church.

Wow, she actually presented her ideas rather well. She's a whack-job, no doubt, but her intelligent response to this idiot "news" anchor really made him look bad. Way to go Fox "News". That is a great example of how NOT to handle people like this. Let their own words show how ignorant they are.

Still, these people are nutz.

Unfortunately there will always be religions fanatics and there is nothing you can do to stop them. If you ever meet someone like this just walk away. They want you to argue and fight them it only gives them more publicity.

Jesus was always respectful. The only ones (whom he had the authority to say this) whom he denounced in strong language, were people who abused other people, spoke harshly of their practices and although were SUPPOSED to be the ones helping them, actually held them in derision. Religious people who set themselves over others in a haughty manner. Those were the only ones that Jesus ever rebuked in strong language; because he knew that his Father cannot stand the haughty ones.

Jesus was there to help, as he himself told those haughty religious people: "The well do not need a physican, but the ailing do."

Jesus himself approached a Samaritan woman. Whom was *not* worshipping correctly, as Jesus pointed out, kindly to her, stating "Salvation originates with the Jews". But he made the kind effort, in his kind way to give her a witness by striking up a conversation with her. A thing unheard of by other Jews. He taught, patiently, prostitutes, his own disciples who at times could be extremely, extremely self-centered (Whom amongst us is the greatest).

The best thing you can do by looking at such things as that, is to recognize Jesus own teachings. That many would claim to worship him, but in fact, he would tell them that they were nothing like him in the final judgement.

"Many will come to me in that day saying: Lord Lord! Did we not prophesy in your name, did we not expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name. And yet I will confess to them; I never knew you. Get away from me you workers of lawlessness." - Matthew 7:22,23

In 2 Peter, I think it is, Peter mentions how you could tell the true Christians from the false. One way is that the false would speak abusively of others, harshly.

The entire 2 chapter of 2 Peter, Peter is discussing those who, he mentions in vs. 1

"However, there also came to be false prophets among the people, as there will also be false teachers among you. These very ones will quietly bring in destructive sects and will disown even the owner that bought them, bringing speedy destruction upon themselves. . . . .daring, self-willed, they do not tremble, . . . .but go on speaking abusively" - 2 Peter 2:1,10b

So the best thing a true Christian can do, whether it be seeing ones like that, or facing ones who hurl abuses at our faith (either ones claiming to be Christian or not, is to follow his example, the angles good example and Jesus example)

"whereas angels, although they are greater in strength and power, do not bring against them an accusation in abusive terms" - 2 Peter 2:11

"But when Michael the archangel had a difference with the Devil and was disputing about Moses' body, he did not dare to bring a judgment against him in abusive terms, but said: May Yahweh rebuke you" - Jude 9

The best a true Christian can do, is trust that the Lord Jesus words are true, and witness to his sheep, as those who are honest, humble, and hungry will listen to the truth that he taught. Those who are not, need either helped, or we need to leave matters in God's hands, as Michael did.
