i took him to the vet last week and they said his blood work was fine aside from a low thyroid level that they put him on medication and his urinalysis came out good as well. I hate seeing him so miserable and now the last three days he will not eat....if anyone out there has any thing to offer me in advice please do. I love this sweet boy so much and I really did not think that 11 years old was terribly old :o((((

The good news about thyroid is it's easily treatable. Sounds like you are on the right track with meds. May take a little while for him to get back to normal habits. One of the symptoms of thyroid is excessive drinking.

If you feel uneasy about the vets diagnosis, get a second opinion.

You will likely have a few more years with your golden once you get his thyroid sorted, don't worry!! Love and scritches will make him feel better in the meantime.

It sounds like he might either have a urinary tract or kidney infection, or maybe even diabetes. If I were you, I'd have him checked out by another vet. Some vets out there are just in it for the money, and want to pass as many animals through the office as they can everyday.

NO NO NO Milk isn't reliable for your canines in any respect. attempt slowly blending milk with water (use domestic dog milk) and use a lot less and a lot less anytime. also you could only supply up the milk (i'd do) then sock her kibble in water for some weeks till she forgets about the milk. she will be able to get adequate from the socked kibble to stay. also attempt utilizing different water dishes till you stumble on one she like.

11 is aging, but not really old. It's not good that he's drinking like that. Has he been tested for diabetes?

Good luck!
