I guess from a totally moral perspective, No. But we don't place the same value, in society as a whole, on animal life and human life. So for most people, yes there is a difference.
As an example, most everyone would stop if they saw a human body lying in the road; either to offer assistance or to call the appropriate authorities. However, unless someone runs over a dog or cat, I don't know of anybody who pays attention to all the dead animals in the road.
But yes, you have a point, both are unwilling victims subjected to whatever tortures their captors inflict on them for what knowledge, if any, is gained.

Well yes. I am in research and we do not harm the animals in anyway. There are strict guidelines that must be followed so that the animal feels no pain when the procedures are done. I am an animal lover, I think that lab rats are precious but I also know that we must treat them fairly and with respect like human patients are to be treated. Without animal subjects, there would not be effective vaccines to things such as the flu, rabies, etc. Many treatments for mental disorders such as Post Truamatc stress sydrome would not be on the brink of discovery. Sweetie, we do not hurt animals, we induce on them human sickness (mildy), study and even heal them if our hypotheses work! Also, these animals are not trapped, they are breed selectively for the purpose of research, companies like Sprague-Dawley help us out with this.

What was the scientific knowledge gained by concentration camps?
Was that a science thing? an theres me thinking it was genocide.
And no I dont believe in animal testing.
Needless suffering through testing should all be done on Phedophiles, that would even things up in the World.
That would be of benefit to everyone, irrespective of results and would stop cross species generalisations.

No difference, if we assume that both Humans and Animals , if asked would certainly prefer "not to be here". Kindness may soften the stay, but does not replace liberty.
