I can certainly respect an educated debate as well as those on opposing sides of the issue. However what I fail to understand is why many seem to lash out at Christians beliefs as if offended by them. I dont see why Christian beliefs bother others. How can a religion that encourages such acts as turn the other cheek and love thy neighbor make some so angry? Why insult their beliefs? Just my opinion.

As you know God's word is sharper than a two-edged sword and cut though the bone and the marrow and the spirit and the flesh. There is no other word like God's because it always get a reaction. People either reject or accept. When people get convicted of sin they can repent or get angry at the messenger as they did when they stoned Stephen. Keep graciously sharing the gospel and allow God to do the work of converting. Lets not offend because God's word brings enough offense.

First off, thank you for the way you worded this question.

It is not so much that they are targeting Christian beliefs any more than they are targeting Muslim ones. It is the simple fact that of all the worlds religions, those two are identical in one respect.

Neither faith will allow anyone else to have their own opinion.
Both of them show a constant desire to convert everyone around them to their belief and even to their sub-division of that belief.

Ours is a the natural reaction anyone has when they are being told they are 'wrong'. The same reaction you now say you have by the way.

The Christians and Muslims in question act very offended and do not understand that they have ALREADY offended most of the rest of us with the preamble to their question.

Typical Christian/ Muslim question:
"What will you do when you are burning in Hell?"

Too many assumptions before the question was even finished

I think it's not the Christian belief system that some people bash, it's the Christians that don't seem to follow the beliefs you mentioned above. As with any group, some are nice and some are not. The not-so-nice Christians have a tendency to attempt to force their religion on others. They don't turn the other cheek, and they don't act like they love their neighbor.

Just what I've noticed...

The religion may ostensibly encourage good ethics but I find christians to often be morally quite despicable. We would not lash out if we were not cornered... you have us surrounded... if you count up all of the different religions that call themselves Christianity, I've read you have a solid majority in the States. As sanity is a minority approach to life, we feel a little hard-pressed to enact change.

Also, research "turn the other cheek"... it doesn't mean what you think it means, I don't think.

I think many people lash out against Christianity because they were force strict Christians when they were children or because they realize in history christian missionary's have actually caused a few wars and a lot of rebellions. But some just bash it because it is a very large religion and there is a good chance your enemy is a christian.

I guess it's because Christian beliefs are so dogmatic. By definition, a Christian is close-minded. And some Christian views on women are utterly insulting.

Yeah, you might have a case if that same religion didn't encourage such acts as the burning alive of human beings (Salem Witch Trials) and outright torture of people (Inquisition) among other horrible acts.

Christians do not suffer as much as Christ did at His first and second advents.
If people have not learned to bow down before the Messenger of the One True God, how can they show any love and respect to ordinary human beings around them?

Most of them do it to get a reaction out of Christians. They hope to trip up someone (and they often do) and make them look either foolish or wrong in their beliefs.

Also, another reason they do it is because they are actually interested in why Christians believe what they believe and long to be a part of it all.

i dont know why some of us insult your beliefs, i dont i respect them i just dont agree with them

but you have to admit, christians sometimes bash atheism or other religions too

some people are just ignorant of other peoples belief system and there is nothing that we can do about it
