I've heard that we have things in common with the Mason's, but no one has ever been able to tell me what, exactly.
I'm trying to decipher your question, and I think you said "The secret, sacred practice, practiced in the Temple." To that I say, yes, we do have sacred practices' in the Temple and because they are sacred a lot of people think they are secret. But I don't know anything about a secret police. As far as the All Seeing Eye, it also happens to be on our money, and is there to represent Christ's all seeing eye.
Sorry that I couldn't answer your question about the Free Mason side, but I felt like I needed to clear up what was LDS and what wasn't.

Crazy Joesph Smith was a Mason until he got the axe. He used various ritual and even masonic aprons in Mormon practice. They use to have a petition form which needed signers much like a Masonic order as well.
As far as in common, NO WAY. Ideals are so different in thinking I wouldn't know where to start. I think J. Smith stated all this was original and was on his tin tablets from God.

Joseph Smith, Jr. (founder of Mormonism) was a Freemason at one time. Even the rituals in their temples are based on the ones in Freemasonry. He was a member of the lodge in Nauvoo, Illinois and became a Master Mason.

Well, since those scary "rituals" have been around since Adam and Eve, it makes perfect sense that Free Mason's have something in common with Mormon "secret practices"...Did you ever stop to think maybe the Mason's got their "rituals" from temple ordinances and not the other way around????
It's funny and sad really that something so sacred to millions of people is SO "scary" to others...just because they don't understand it, it must be a "cult".
Give me a break people.

Here is a book you should read. It was written by an active member of the mormon church. If you have a google account you can read the whole thing for free online:

Oh - you oughta see the film "What's Going On In There?" - a movie made by ex-Mormons about the Mormon temple rituals. I made my Dad (a Royal Arch Mason) watch it and asked him (I'm not a Mason, but I know a lot about them from my family) point-blank: "Dad - is it the same stuff?? Tell me the truth!!"
He looked me dead in the eye and said one word:
"Yes."

There are quite a few things they have in common, one of which is being full of a lot of good people. It is very likely both were inspired.

You have only scratched the surface. There is a whole lot more. If you want to know more, go to mrm.org (Mormon Resarch Ministry)

Hand shakes, Signs, Degrees are similar to stages of development in Mormonism....Completing the square....[Heal to toe, shoulder to shoulder.] Doing "floor work".
Mormonism is an offshoot so retained many many rituals, signs, etc..
