i see these questions, "if athiests dont believe in christ why do they celebrate christmas"
now i have to ask, if christians are so against paganism and such, why do they take their holliday and traditions?
note: any biblical scholar will tell you that jesus was not even born in december
note: the tree, the holly, the mistletoe, the giving of presents, and the eating ham are all from the pagan celebration
note: december 25th is the date that was believed to be the winter solstice, and thus celebrated for their god whos name meant "unconquered sun". it was celebrated because this is the shortest day, and the day that the sun proved itself unconquered.
so why do christians mix their religion/tradition with pagan religion/tradition?

I'm ashamed to say this, but Christians and Catholics lost sight of things years ago (centuries). christmas is no longer celebrating the day Chist came to earth to save us, but the day a jolly old fat man in a res suit come to give you presents.

You don't have to 'believe' in winter soltice that is a given. Its the shortest day of the year whether there is/was clocks or calendars. It just happens.
The pagans, after the Jews of the day, were the ones that converted to Christianity. They were the Romans, Greeks,Medes, etc, they brought their celebrations with them and adapted them with their new beliefs.
Christians are not above celebrations and parties except for a few stoic sects.
Jesus was born, the day picked is irrevlant to the celebration it is an historical fact. Jesus is the Light of the World what better time to celebrate than in the dark dreary days of winter time.

You sound like a real smart guy and with enough unction from the Holy Spirit you too could know the answer to your question. Most mature Christians know and the ones the are new are on the way.
The answer is simple when you know who is controlling these events. Its the Kenites. The descendants of Cain, the son of Satan from the Garden of Eden. The answers are in the volume of the Book, the Bible. Try reading it with understanding sometime.
You get this understanding from God when you ask Him for it the way He wants you to.><>

Some don't celebrate Christmas some do. I personally celebrate at Christmas because it is a time for exchanging presents and a gathering of my family and friends. It has nothing to do with the birth of Christ as far as I am concerned. What are you telling me I can't celebrate anytime I like. Just shut up and die. xx

When missionaries set out to convert pagans, they found it easier to associate Christian holidays, saints, etc. with existing pagan rituals. Of course, they removed a lot of the virgin sacrifice and sexual escapades from the rituals. However, by slowly adding the Christian beliefs and removing the pagan ones, Christian traditions replaced the pagan ones. That's why many Christian traditions have pagan roots.
Hope that clears things up.

It's called "sanctification", Chippy. Like as Jesus Christ, God made man, in the Incarnation, sanctifies (makes holy) mankind...so the Church, Christ's Body on earth, sanctifies both time and space (i.e., including the calendar)
