I stumbled upon a blog that basically said that Fundamentalist Christians follow the Bible closer than the more Liberal Christians. He gives a link to a site with a video clip of Shirley Phelps-Roper where he says she wins a Biblical argument.

What are your thoughts?

They don't care about the bible. They only care about power.

Hmm, I'm a conservative Christian but I can't say i follow the bible more closely then more liberal Christians. The thing is I know some liberal Christians who believe certain things are not sinful even though the bible explicitly states are wrong. I mean someone told me that was a long time ago 'blah blah' what about pork that was a sin to eat and Jesus made that clean. Yes, what Jesus makes clean is clean but i'm pretty sure what God said is an abomination was not made clean.

In all actuality it doesn't matter if your liberal or conservative it's where your personal walk with God is. Because i have met some pretty hypocritical conservatives.

Fundamentalist Christians interpret the Bible as being literal and unchanging. Liberal Christians are more ok with reading into the text to accommodate modern social trends. And there are those that are somewhere in the middle.

Isn't it possible that they both follow it to the same degree -- but interpret it differently.

For example, most Catholics look at Genesis as allegory and do not take it literally. Fundamentalists do take it literally.

On the other hand, Catholics take the words of Jesus literally when he says "This is my body" and "This is my blood" while fundamentalists say that it is not to be taken literally, but rather symbolically.

Do we therefore say that fundamentalists follow the Old Testament more closely, but Catholics follow the New Testament more carefully? Or do we just admit that they interpret it differently?

In a way but where is the love? I mean they focus on all the rules and not on the good news of God's love. Jesus did not commission us to point out flaws He commissioned us tell the world the Good News of God's love. To let them know that God loves them and was willing to sacrifice his Son that He would live among us and show us how to live a perfect life. If you will notice Jesus only condemns so called believers and priests that say they follow the law and He said that the law was not in them. Remember the lady who was bleeding and was not Jewish that he healed of her ailment. But to me the fundamentalist miss the boat by spreading the wrong message to the wrong audience.

i believe we ought to continuously no longer look previous the bible yet to it. we are to pass to the bible and with the Holy Spirit in prayer and meditation to teach us the right interpretation. we are to respond in the type to construct one yet another up contained in the way they ought to pass in accordance to their desires. like the myth of the farmer planting the seeds. The weeds have been left to advance between the crop until the day of harvest. then they're appeared after out by using the single given the authority ( no longer us) and placed subsequently to the existence they chosen. This nevertheless won't set nicely with unbelievers. Their is not any hiding from the persecution. Jesus enjoyed all and nevertheless they in demand him to silence him. For one to look after a expensive chum, in some unspecified time contained sooner or later you would be able to desire to be the chum and help them comprehend which you care approximately their eternity. Do all issues out of love and be above reproach. improve others up for in the experience that your tear others down you're no longer doing the Lord's artwork yet that of destroyer.

first off, i don't think there are any "winners" in a biblical argument because there's no way to prove inconclusively who's right or wrong because the bible is all about interpretation. having said that, yes, i believe that fundamentalist christians claim to follow the bible more closely than others. but again...if there's no "right" or "wrong" way to interpret the bible, what does that say about their mentality?

They follow their interpretations of the Bible; but in many cases that is far away from following what the Bible actually says.

Yes.The liberals are, well, more liberal when it comes to doctrine. And yes,it is a no no.Reason being, you end up with watered down Christianity,or my favorite term cotton candy Christianity. The new "emergent" churches are more about self help than religion, therefore you end up with people who don't know anything about Christianity,or the importance of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Yes..that's what "fundamentalist" means. It means they take the Bible literally, and therefore follow it to the letter, whereas more liberal Christians interpret it more, and try to sense the meaning behind the words rather than taking them literally.

In theory, yes. But real-life Christians come in all flavors, because they are individuals.
