yes i have wondered this
Was it really the snakes fault, no it was Satan Either in the form of a snake or possessing one, either way it is not the snake's fault. So it seems unfair.
i would like to know what they looked like before.
I find it amazing how people ask where snakes are punished in the Bible when it says it right before He banishes Adam and Eve.

Humans have a base fear of thinks such as snakes, spiders, et cetera...it is a reflection found in humans (arguably more potent in some than others)...the fun thing is that all primates react the same way (us included...I know creationists...but people...we are classified as an anthropoidal primate...actually read Darwin and similar scientists and you will be less offended than if you simply listen to what people say....isn't that what you tell people about the Bible? I digress...)
anyway, we have a base fear of same animals because they pose a very real and prominent danger to us --being terrestrial...isn't it funny how everyone has a phobia about some animal that is poisonous, ferocious, or a disease carrier, but we are all pretty much okay with the cute and cuddly of the animal world?
This is why, throughout history...all of it, not just Christian, the animals we naturally fear the most are villianized in our folk-lore. By the way... the bible never makes reference to the Devil being in the garden...it was merely the serpent ..which classically is a symbol of danger, poison, and moral "lowness" --due to the obvious lack of legs.
So the beast is only a figment of our own fear projected onto the animal kingdom...which in essence makes the generator of 'evil'
Have fun with it...and don't be a cold-hearted snake.

The two geniuses below are telling you that its for the same reason we are punished for Adam and Eve's sin. Problem is, we are supposedly the DESCENDANTS of Adam and Eve, and snakes are simply animals created in their current form by God, and Satan was IMITATING one of them to fool Eve, never the cleverest of people.
How do snakes therefore have ANYTHING to do with what Satan did?
Answer: They don't. It's another lame-azz piece of bad mythology.

I ask myself the same thing about women suffering for Eve's sins. Keep in mind that Moses wrote Genesis, and quite Frankly, I dont think jews present God in the same forgiving, loving manner that Christians do. I may be wrong, I dont knw much about jews. But the new testament tells us that The son will not carry the sins of his father. (or something like that, Im transalting in my head from Spanish) Talk about a huge inconsistency

Snakes are punished? How? When?
God has never punished snakes for anything that Satan did while he was in the form of the snake.
Next time, make sure that you can back up your question. I do not recall anywhere in the Bible in which snakes have been punished.

Did he do it in the "form" of a snake or did he use the snake as a mouthpiece similar to the way a ventriloquist will use a puppet?

Snakes aren't punished. It was allegorical - and the snake is the devil.

They aren't. I'm just plain terrified of snakes, it has nothing to do with the Satan.
