Because I think I have gingivitis and have had it for a while, but my dentist doesn't really say anything about or warn me of how bad it could be.

So is that there job basically to tell you and help you?

Go to another Dentist. Get a second opinion.

It seems that you regularly visit your dentist and quite cautious about your oral hygiene. Gingivitis is disorder involving inflammation of gums. The inflammation and infection destroy the tissues that support the teeth including gum. Have you any of the symptoms like swollen gums, bright red or red purple gums, blood on toothbrush even while gentle brushing of teeth.or gums that are tender but otherwise painless? I hope that dentist must be removing all plaque and tartar under your teeth. So there is little chance that you suffer from this disease which your dentist has not noticed. Still you can talk to your dentist and tell your concern. Nothing to worry about. You may ask for second opinion from other dentist if in doubt.

I would hope so...
but you should ask if you think somethin's wrong...
or you could find a new dentist that worries about the health of your mouth...

Absolutely, your dentist or dental hygienist would tell you!
But what makes you think you have it? Symptoms are sore, inflamed gums; maybe a bad odor.

Yes, your dentist should tell you if he THINKS you have a disease. But you should also tell him about your concerns. It's your mouth.

If he doesn't mention it, then you ask him about it.
