Next month my chihuaha and me are flying back home for a wedding and I'm afraid she's gonna get really nervous on the airplane ride. I have also heard that sometimes things happen to them. She's gonna be under the seat in front of me but I still think she's gonna get to excited and nervous acting. Is there anything I can do to keep her calm on the 5hr. plane ride?

The vet can give her a small dose of vallium for the ride. It will cure her anxiety. Last flight I was on, I brought my little chi out and just put her in my lap under a blanket. She slept the entire way, and I'm sure it was comforting to her knowing I was right there.

Most vets do not recommend sedatives for dogs that are flying, although I'm sure a little Rescue Remedy would be okay. I fly with my chihuahua all the time and he's completely fine. Once the plane starts moving he usually sleeps. I just make sure he knows I'm there and once in a while I put him on my lap...but you will get heck if they see you! Get her used to her travel bag before you go, and make sure she's wearing something warm since the floor gets quite cold, especially in winter. I hope it's not a direct flight, then you can take her out to potty and play with her. Good luck, I'm sure she'll be just fine! :)

Hi
I fly with my chihuaha all the time, he loves it. I found it best that you make sure they have done all their business before getting on the plane. I also give him a chewy stick and a few of his favourite toys to play with. He gets a little anxious on take off and landing , I presume because it is so loud for him at that point I just make sure he knows I am there by putting my hand on his carry on bag and also keep rubbing my feet on his case. My chihuahua is also a very calm one, so that also makes it easier. You should be fine, happy travels.....

Ask your vet what he recommends. Call your airline and ask if the sweetie can stay on your lap, during the flight.

Don't the dog under the cargo section of the plane, you may never see her again. Too many dogs are lost and/or
"disappear."

Last year, in New York last year, a champion Show Dog, got lost at the airport and has not been found.

Make sure your dog is well adapted to being crated and loves her crate. If you just bought her a new airplane carrier get her used to it now... give her lots of treats and praise for being in it...try putting a favorite toy or small blankie of hers in there too.

Go to your vet. They can prescribe some doggie prozac that will help calm her and she'll probably just snooze the whole flight away.

My vet said that I could give my min pin 1/2 of a benadryll. Maybe you could ask your vet if you could give her some so that she will sleep. I wouldn't try to measure it myself because I'm sure she is really small.

Your vet can prescribe a mild sedative that will make the flight more relaxing for both of you.

I took my dog to Houston from Cleveland several years ago. Our Vet gave me some "doggie downs" (tranquilizers) and told me how and when to use them.
