You didn't know? If you are American and especially if you are George Bush you are responsible for ALL the World's problems since the begining of time!!

Oh... and if you are a White-Anglo-Saxon-Prodestant... well then you are pretty much the fault of every wrong ever.

Why, just the other day I called up the Vactican and asked when my family and I were going to be reimbursed for our suffering at the hands of the Holy Roman Empire. I commented that at some point on my family history I am almost 95.3% certain that a village belonging to my ancestors was burned to the ground by Roman soliders... as such I believe the Vatican caused me serious emotional stress.

They asked if I was American and white, and when I said yes, then they said, actually it was my ancestor's fault for being there.

They also said that I must become a Liberal Democrat and protest against George Bush until he signs the Kyoto Accords unless I want to go to hell.

Anyhow, drink your KoolAid kids. Props to the question asker.

The truth is that thoughout the Earth's 4.5 billion year history, the climate has fluctuated from 1 mile thick glaciers covering the northern hemispheres all year round to desert like conditions all year round.

We also know from 1 million year old ice core samples that the carbon dioxide levels have fluctuated in a startlingly similar pattern to the global temperature fluctuations.

Right now, atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are higher than at any point in all of human existence. global temps are lagging behind due a complex process where pollution and sunspot activity have reduced the amount of radiant light reaching the Earth. But as clean air technology gets better, this will go away too.

Melting is of course caused by warming. Some melting is caused by natural warming and cooling cycles. You have probably read that there was a "little ice age" about 500 years ago, and a warming cycle about 500 years before that.

But there is another, non-natural, kind of warming caused by human activity. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution about 200 years ago, humans have been burning more and more "fossil fuels" --coal, oil, and natural gas are the big ones. It is estimated that over that period of time, we have emitted about 100 billion tons of carbon into the atmosphere, and are adding about 2 billion tons each year now. Scientists are able to show that current concentrations of carbon in the atmosphere are the highest in a record extending back 100s of thousands of years. (How they know that is a separate and fascinating topic)

The problem of carbon (CO2) in the atmosphere is that it creates a "greenhouse effect," trapping more and more of the sun's heat energy and causing temperatures to rise and glaciers to melt.

It depends entirely on how you assume the glaciers were formed.
One theory is that glaciers were formed when a meteor hit the earth, creating massive amounts of dusk that blocked out much of the sun's light. This massively cooled the earth, causing an ice age. As the dusk cleared and the atmosphere slowly regained and began, once again, trapping heat from the sun, these huge glaciers melted.
If you asked this question to try to disprove global warming, you failed miserably.

George Bush has always been around. He was the serpent in the Garden of Eden and rose 1/3 of the angels against God.

I think you can check Mr. Chaney and Mr. Bush's stock porfolio. You may be interested to see how many of them are oil company.

That's why they don't see global warming. They want you to continue to use more oil so that there is higher demand and profits.
