Just remember that the instructor is there to help you, critique you, and teach you how to safely drive. As long as you are driving an automatic, it should be nothing. Focus on what the person teaching is saying, but not so much that you don't see what you are doing. Breath. A very important part of staying alive. And don't sweat it. It's your first time, so if the instructor is good, he'll be nice and understanding. Hope you do well!
And be confidant.

There are two things you are trying to learn, how the machine works, and how the traffic moves in relationship to you, l think a positive attitude is a great help, plus your instructor can have a huge influence too.
If you have access to a car, just sit in the drivers seat for a bit and try to familiarise yourself with the controls and what they feel like..eg set the seat ..mirrors ect...start the engine and try the accelerator, try controlling the revs with the car in neutral(but no more that 2000 rev per min....) get someone who is experienced to commentate on a familiar journey, that way you can hear what they are looking for in terms of hazards whilst on the road, you will never regret learning...despite all the so called congestion the freedom you will enjoy is well worth it, Above all good luck....

Its ok to be nervous, just don't be stupid.
Ok you're not ignorant because youve practiced driving and read the rules and you know the basics of the traffic laws. The person who tests you understands that and knows youre nervous and their used to seeing this so don't worry about that person.
Now listen to this. At our DMV their is a stop sighn where they line up cars to take the test. about 3 cars back of that stop sighn is another stop sighn actually mounted on the side of the building. Most people watch the car in front of them and when that car moves forward they also pull up one and wait for the next instructor to get in then they drive off. But sometimes all six instructors come out at the same time and get in the first six cars. well each car in turn pulls up to that first stop sighn. stops ,and then begins the test. EXCEPT for the last three cars which like the first three were looking at that first stop sighn and didn't see the one on the building. The instructor will tell them to pull over and that they failed for not stopping at the sighn on the building. So nervous is ok but concentrate on your driving because thats what your being tested for.

just taking my own driving lessons (am 35). remember, there is nothing you can do that your instructor has not seen before. on your first lesson there will be very, very, very little driving. there is a lot of talking, and explaining. They are assessing you and at the same time trying to convey reassurance, because, face it, everyone is nervous the first time they sit behind the wheel!! remember, if you are in DANGER, your instructor has brake and clutch control to help you. Do NOT try to show off what you know, because there is plenty of time for you to show them at the right time... you are there to learn, and they don't expect you to know anything from beforehand! Good luck, and enjoy it (and if you leave your first lesson unhappy with your instructor, use your judgement and if necessary call the agency to ask for someone else... it is vital you trust them).

I took driving lessons...u'll be alright...just
Realize that ur going to make mistakes and it's ok if u don't get it the first time...
*make sure ur comfortable in the seat (do not drive if ur not comfortable)
*try take some deep breaths and tell urself you are in control of the car (BECAUSE U R Sweetie)
*listen to ur instructor
*and while driving (only after u have gotten use to the instructions though) think of some happy thoughts (lol) like something funny that happened or ur fav tune and sing it in ur head; it keeps ur mind off of the ignorant a-holes as stated as above
*Also note that nobody got it on their first try...somebody had to instruct them to become a good driver
***It ok to ask how to improve ur technique...it only makes u better
And before you know it, u realize there is nothing to it...but to do it...Good luck and happy driving..O, and have fun, instructors and more laxed than freaked parents

There is no way you can be calm and collected the first time. Don't worry about it as you will do fine and it will be like a new pair of shoes, you will get used to it and it is no big deal as time goes on. Good luck and enjoy!

The instructor will spend most of the lesson talking about the controls of the car, then he will talk about moving off and stopping. So you will be lucky if you even get to drive the car at all.

I was nervous when I first started babes but you just have to relax and listen to what your instructor is saying, also dont pay attention to people overtaking you on the road and beeping, ignorant bstards!!
Dont expect to get it the first time, with practice you'll get better.
We were all learners once.
You'll soon pick it up, I'd say the hardest thing for me was my 3 point turn.
Good Luck.

How badly do you want to drive? Your goal is to drive, look at it like that. It is such a thrill being able to drive, I don't mean that in a fast mad way, I mean you will be able to get in your car (when you've passed you test) and go where you want to go, when you want too. I love driving. Good luck, you'll either love it or hate it, my guess is you'll love it, because eventually you will have your freedom. :)
