Is this terrible to think about leaving a mellow adult cat alone inside for a period of 5 days and nights, leaving an abundant source of food and water, and warmth? She hates being outside and is afraid of other cats. No cat boarding houses in our area. We have left for about 2 1/2 days before and she seemed fine and dandy and did not even tear up anything. Would this be cruel to leave her that long? I don't know of anyone to have come in and check on her nearby.

It should be fine, just make sure you leave her plenty of food and water and a toy to play with. also leave out one of your shirts that you have worn so your sent might help her to deal with you being gone.

it's no big deal to leave your cat home alone that long. Just make sure that you leave plenty of water, food, and toys for it to play with. I go to Pennsylavania a lot and we leave my two cats here while we are gone and they are always fine. just as long as you come home there is no harm done. Have a fun trip and remember to leave plenty of food and water! (you might want to change the litter box right before you leave or your house will really smell before you get home and if the cat doesn't like the litter box being too full it might go to the bathroom all around your house, so make sure it's clean before you leave!)

Well thats very fair for that cat.
There are such things as a cat sitter. Someone will come to your house everyday and will feed your cat and play with her.
This way they don't get lonely and if something happens to her, the sitter can tell you right away, instead of you coming home after 5 days and finding there is something wrong.

No, its fine. I've left my cat alone for a week and a half. We just had someone stop by every other day to make sure she had fresh water(her food was in an automatic despeser), and they played with her for 5-10 minutes everyday. Just try to get someone trustworty to come check on your cat and your cat will be just fine.

I've left my cat at home for up to 3 days with plenty of food and water and she wass fine. But if you are uncomftorable leaving your cat alone, you can ask a close friend or family member to stop by every other day to feed her and maybe pet her for a while. You just have to be able to trust them with a spare key to your house. :)

I hate leaving my cat too but sometimes it must be done. Cats are pretty independant and can stay alone. Just leave her LOTS of food and water and she should be fine. Make sure there isn't anything she can get into that would hurt her. Don't feel bad. She'll be alright!

I think you need to think how you would feel if the worse case scenario happened and your cat was dead when you got back. Is it worth whatever you might be going to? I'm sure the risks are very low but a friends left a cat for a few days and she got behind the washing machine and suffocated. Maybe you have a neighbour who could check up on her in return for some payment or a present? I'm sure you won't enjoy your break if you are worrying.

If you have a petsmart near you, they have some locations with petHotels, which are surprisingly reasonably priced. Our local one is only $12 a night.

Try craigslist.org and select your nearest city and place a posting for a sitter or see if you can locate someone who is pet sitting for profit for the holidays. A lot of people, college students and teenagers are doing it to make extra money for the holidays.

I would be too afraid to leave my baby in house for that long.

Sure cats can fend for themselves, but you would need to have a gradual drip water bowl and similar food bowl which is sold at most pet places. Be careful about using it longer though water can go eight days without becoming stagnant, and bugs form in standing water but that also takes a time.

Its ok, as long as you leave plenty of food and water. But the cat may get mad at you when you return. I left my cats for a few days, and they wanted nothing to do with me for about a week. They are very tempermental. Good luck.

I would leave her, She would probably enjoy having the house to herself, If you can, have neighbor come in and check on her every other day . My friend did leave their cat for a day or two and they left a potato chip bag out and the cat tried to eat the potato chips and suffocated itself. It was really sad. SO don't leave any food out except her cat food obviously.
