German Shepherds are a very active breed, they needs lots of physical as well as mental stimulation. Being alone in the yard provides neither of these.

If you don't provide the stimulation these dogs need they will find other ways to occupy their time, as you are finding out.

Enroll in obedience and agility classes with her. This will give her some much needed exercise and mental stimulation.

When you are not home during they day put her in a crate in the house with a kong filled with treats.

Brining her inside where she can't hear the noises will help with the barking.

No dog should be forced to live outside alone. They need to be in the house with their human "pack" members. They are very social animals.

She also needs more than a walk most evenings, and on weekends. Play fetch with her in the backyard, practice your obedience. Build agility equiptment and practice that as well.

If you can't provide the physical and mental stimulation she requires, perhaps rehoming her would be best. Look for a good german shepherd rescue in your area.

I have a German shepherd 6mths old, I work from home so she has me about the place all day which is an advantage but she barks at my neighbours radio and police scanner that is on for 16 hours a day seven days a week and they don't care yet they complain about her barking?

I ignore her barking because I have found that the more attention I pay to her to stop it the more upset she becomes and continues to bark, because she goes into guard mode and the more they hang over my fence yelling at her the more she barks....go figure...I'm surrounded by idiots....lol

Your shepherd is driven to distraction and very lonely. Solution; bones, bones, bones big ones from the butcher and a child's splash pool (clam from Big W) filled with water and balls and sqeaky toys to keep her busy.

When my girl jumps up I fold my arms turn around and will not speak or give attention to her until she is sitting. But hey if your dog is home all day alone she will miss you heaps and be soooooooo excited when you come home you can't be upset with her for showing her just how much she loves you......don't make a fuss when coming or going this will help to settle her and obedience is excellent for problem solving and basic training and agility is fun, my girl loves it.

Perhaps another dog for company or re-homing her if you genuinely don't have the time to give her. My shepherd lives and sleeps with me, she is adorable and that is why I chose the most loyal of breeds the best dog you will ever have the pleasure of sharing your life with, I wanted a companion and she fits that requirement perfectly, what is it you need from your girl?

Check out the instructions on the shock collar, they are not supposed to be used for certain kinds of behaviour problem (innate behaviours). They just cause stress to the animal if you try to use them to correct the wrong types of behaviour.
Guarding is innate in this breed - she can't help doing it. She hears people coming up the path, she barks, they go away again and that reinforces the barking. She thinks that barking makes people go away.
You need to train her to do something different when she hears people coming and feels like barking, and to do that you need to teach her a new routine.
Start off by figuring something out that won't annoy you. For example 'go and sit on this mat'. Teach her that first.
Then you link the new behaviour to the stimulus, so put her on the lead and wait with her in the garden. When someone comes and before she goes off on one, put her through the mat routine and reward her.

The problem is that nothing you teach her can be as exciting as jumping up at the wall and barking. So you might try to give her something to take out the frustration on such as a rope tied to a tree and get her to have a tug of war with that instead.
It would be an idea to see a behavioural trainer to help, they might have some bright idea about an alternative task for her which is acceptable to you both.

You should also be aware that in future its best to nip these behaviours in the bud before they become ingrained habit. That means supervising and training your dog while its young.
And that any kid that comes over that wall to get their ball is going to be bitten.

Plant something in front the wall to keep her away from the wall. If she can't reach it...she can't dirty it. Also, the shock collar is your best bet to control barking. She is actually just being a German Shepard...patrolling and protecting is what they have been breed to do for centuries.

I know this sonds mean, but get a shock collar. Just watch it while its outside and ZAP! whenever needed.Works great and German Shepards learn real fast! Play with it more so it will something else to do other than dirtying your walls.

She wants to see what is on the other side of the wall. if you replace all or part of the wall with a fence that she can see through she will be much calmer and happier. A German Shepherd left on her own all day will soon get bored. Any sounds from over the wall will attract her attention and she will try to see over the wall.

I think your german shepherd needs more exercise than what she already gets, try walking her b4 you go to work in the morning. These dogs are very vocal and will bark if you live where people have access around your property......Try painting your walls another colour.... that static shock collar is so cruel.

A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tr.im/jlFSp

By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.

To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.

Do not leave the dog outside unattended and keep your dog inside when you are not home. How can you prevent unwanted behaviors if you are not there to correct or stop them. Dogs need to be taught what is acceptable and what is not if you just leave her out how can you teach. Whether you work or not you should still find time to teach your dog. If you had a child would you just expect it to know right from wrong.
