So when Jesus was resurrected the first person he showed himself to was Mary Magdalene. Now if I died and was resurrected, I'd probably go to my girlfriend first. If I was single (like Jesus was) I'd probably go to my Mom or my buddies (disciples) first, or even the one who killed me.

So this line of thinking made me wonder if maybe Mary Magdalene was in fact Jesus ladyfriend. I mean it couldn't have been because he'd think she'd believe him over everyone else (cause she didn't) or that she would be the best messenger (though the message did spread far and wide) due to the fact that no one would probably believe a woman who dabbled in prostitution.

Jesus and Mary sittin' in a tree?

First, there is every reason to believe that Mary was indeed Jesus' wife. He was not single as many think. In order to be called a rabbi, he had to be 30 yrs. old and married. He was 30 when he started his ministry and we have to assume that he was married as well.
Second, Mary did believe Him and recognized Him when He called her by name. The disciples/apostles did not believe her at first not because she was unreliable but because they still lacked understanding and faith.
Third, she was not a prostitute. The Savior cast seven devils out of her, or seven evil spirits. That has nothing to do with prostitution. It is an old, false, Catholic notion that the seven devils somehow relate to the supposed seven deadly sins, one of which is sexual sin. There is no truth to this old notion.
For the record, it is also speculated that Jesus might have been married to Mary and/or Martha, the sisters of Lazarus, a family He obviously cared a lot about.
You are right that the fact that He showed Himself to Mary first is evidence that she was very special to Him. She very well could have been His wife.

I have an answer to this question.

The Christian Gospels mention Mary Magdalene a few times, with some confusion as to whether she and Mary of Bethany are the same person. Mary Magdalene is the only woman mentioned by name in all four gospels besides Mother Mary. She sinned more deeply, so she had more demons to eject. The number seven gives the clue.

Jesus healed Mary Magdalene of seven demons (Mark 16:9, Luke 8:2); Mary Magdalene came to the dinner at Simeon's house with an alabaster jar from which she anointed the head and feet of Jesus Christ (Mark 14:3-9, John 11:2, 12:3-8); and Mary Magdalene was the first to see Jesus Christ resurrected from the tomb (John 20, Mark 16:9, Matthew 28).

Some researchers have traced her bloodline, saying that here are the offspring of Jesus. I actually don't care about this controversy, because I find Magdalene's gift in the tradition of gnosis.

The DaVinci Code is a novel so we shouldn't take it as scripture. That said, it seems that if Christ was on earth to live as a man that it would make sense for him to be married. Also at that time only rabbis from a certain sect remained celibate and Jesus wasn't part of that group. The first person that he spoke to after rising from the tomb was Mary. That would seem reasonable too if she was closer to him than the others. Some say that Jesus could not have been married because he was sinless. Since when is marriage a sin? We need to remember that the Bible was prepared by a council created by the Emperor Constantine. Books were left out, probably because the political mood of the day didn't appreciate the messages that they contained. This is also where the lies about Mary were created. She was discredited because having a woman in such an esteemed position went against the grain for the male dominated priesthood of the Catholic church. Also, the four gospels in the Bible were not written by men who knew Jesus. They were written over 100 years later so no one alive at His time would have been reviewing them for accuracy.

This is a moot point. Jesus, tempted in all ways like we are, was without sin. This means that regardless of where Mary wanted the relationship to be, Jesus, handled it with honor and integrity.

When you experience the perfect love of God, that He has individually for you first hand, you make one of two choices. You run to it or you run away from it.

Mary Magdelene was one of his biggest supporters. She also ran into him (if I"m recalling my biblical history correctly) after finding out his tomb was empty and showed it to the other disciples. I think they went to comfort Mary his mother and she was left behind. She stopped to talk to him, thinking he was a gardner (meaning the others walked by him). I always pictured her as more level headed and was probably choosen because she was not a woman who gave flights of fancy. AFter all, a grieving mother might seem suspicious if she jsut said her son rose from the dead, but someone who is grounded (as I beleive Mary Magdelne was) might be more credible.

I do not think they were lovers.

The four gospels split on who he saw first ( I did a big study on this). 1 says he first went to Mary Magdalene, 2 say he went to both his mother and Mary Magdalene, and 1 says he went to "a group of women", probably Mary, Mary Magdalene, and other followers of Jesus.

The main point for me is:

Who cares? Prove to me that Jesus and Mary M. were lovers.

I don't think i believe in that... if he came out of his hide out and went to Magdalene is because God wanted it. She was the only one that straight away recognized him... anyone correct me if i'm wrong...

To suppose that Jesus didn't have a wife is absurd. He was a Jewish man living in the Middle East. People wouldn't accept him *at all* if he wasn't married.

... That is, if he existed at all.

i think Mary was far more a part of Jesus' life than the religious wackjobs want us to think. God getting married or having a girlfriend - HORRORS!! Kind of ruins the whole god thing, doesn't it?
