Portland Oregon has beat out Salt Lake City Utah as the "Whitest City in America" ie having the highest percentage of white people per capita. With that said, in the 29 years I have lived here, I have seen very few instances of racisim. There has been some generalized non violent racisim in the form of gentrification, but race is rarely a motive for Portlanders to get violent.
We tend to be a rather open city. Our emplyment has been getting better lately, though it is still difficult to find a job.

Seattle. I hear it is a safe and friendly place for families. My dad has been there and says it is nice. I also read that it is one of the best places to live and raise families.

For some personal advice: no matter where you go there will always be someone who does not like you because your husband is black and that you married him. It is a very sad thing that there are stil people like that. I believe that race does not matter and as long as you are happy and in love, no one can do anything to harm you and your family, emotionally. Just stay strong, you will find your place one day.

Portland is actually quite race friendly and provides the best selections of neighborhoods, jobs and living.
For the 15 years that I lived there as a chinese man, I had only 1 distinctive racial hatred encounter. And I worked in the hospitatlity business and meets lots of strangers on a daily base.
