What defines a "Soul mate" how do you know? Is there more than one?

A soul mate is...
the one who would do anything in their power to keep you happy,
the one who would do anything to protect you,
the one mean the world to,
the one who would never lie to you,
the one who loves just the way you are,
the one who gives you unconditional love,
the one who loves you with all of your flaws,
the one who would want nothing more than to share the rest of their life with you,
the one you would love nothing more than to give all the above to...
I could go on and on and on. All I can say is I'm glad I found mine.

Hello, I believe a soul mate is defined as someone that shares in your hopes and dreams and has a similar connection to your past or heritage. For example, it would be tough to have a soul mate come into your life that had a totally different religious pattern, or someone that is dead driven on an aspect of life that you yourself have never given much thought. However it does happen. I believe you will know your soul mate after getting to know someone over a period of time. Next, I do believe that God has given us a few soul mates in life. That's why people tend to get re-married. Sometimes life will through more than a few people out there for you. Some people are only meant to be together for a short while. Just because a couple stays married for 60 years doesn't mean they are soul mates,even though they might grow that way over the years, it just means they have more patience than I. :)

i think there is a difference between a soul mate and a true love. sometimes it works out to be the same person, but a soul mate is someone who really connects with you.
Soulmate (or soul mate) is a term sometimes used to designate someone with whom one has a feeling of deep and natural affinity, friendship, love, intimacy, sexuality, and/or compatibility.
A related concept is that of the twin flame or twin soul – thought to be the ultimate soulmate, the one and only other half of one's soul, for which all souls are driven to find and join.
However, not everyone who uses these terms intends them to carry such mystical connotations; they are sometimes used simply as an expression of strong emotional feeling for someone.
i personally have both, my true love is my lover, but my soul mate is my best friend and i know no matter what happens with us, there will always be a special connection that only we understand and cherish.

I've always thought of a soul mate as your partner, friend, and lover all rolled into one. I believe there is only one and that is the person you stay with, love and live life with forever. They know you at your best and your worst (and you know them the same way) and they love you, anyway.

soul mate is that one person that every time u r with them u just know u want to spend the rest of your life with them. and no i don't think u can have more than one soul mate. when u find it trust me u will just know. it is an undescribable feeling.

Someone who brings out the best in you, makes you feel beautiful or handsome without words, makes you laugh and wipes your tears when you cry. I think you can find more than one person to be yor soul mate but you have to search hard and have an open mind.

Maybe a soul mate is some one you can unselfishly love without expecting anything in return even though that person is very fulfilling.
