I live in the Midwest. I own a short-haired pointing dog that's fairly muscular, so she has neither the warm coat nor the subcutaneous fatty tissue to get through colder seasons. She has a neoprene jacket that essentially encloses her chest, keeping the heat in and protecting her skin from scrapes, cuts, or similar injuries. We also have these dog boots (foot pads can dry out and be sensitive to snow/ice) that are made of felt or some similar material. All fasten with hook-and-loop for comfort and safety - no zippers, snaps, buttons, hooks, or anything ornamental that could get caught on anything or tangled up with another dog's collar or leash.

Mine has a football sweatshirt. Yes, I know it is lame...but I am a sucker for cute dumb stuff. I do acknowledge that it is stupid for dogs to wear clothes, but 1. My dog loves it - she likes to stay warm and 2. I don't let the dog out of the house with it on! I don't want people to think I am a whack job!

I have loads of different clothes for my dog including a santa suit for Christmas and for those of you saying its cruel, that's rubbish, my dog is a chinesse crested hairless so he doesnt have fur!! Every time I get any of his clothes out he gets over excited and cant wait for me to put them on him!!! He loves the attention of me putting clothes on him. He is not a fashion statement!

My lab has a faux sherpa coat but only because he has very thin fur and it gets below freezing a lot here. It's not for a fashion statement. I would take the poor thing out first thing in the morning to tend his business and he would be shivering hard by the time he was done.

The only thing a dog should wear besides it's fur is a collar with ID on it and a leash for walking!
