My fiance and i have planned a wedding for June of 2009. i want to strt looking for locations now so we can figure out what we'll need for the budget of the rest of the wedding. he seems to feel that it's not a big deal and that we have more than enough time. but don't you have to book a lot of places at least a year ahead of time to make sure you get your date? and am i being absolutely ridiculous for looking for things now, when the wedding is over 2 years away? we can't even decide on a general location!! except that we'd both like the ceremony to be outdoors, which would require us to have a backup location incase it rains! AGH! how do you go about figuring it all out?

yeah, i forgot to say that it's a medieval/ celtic/ Robin Hood & Maid Marian themed wedding. we've decided on clothing for him (i keep changing my mind between 2 or 3 dresses online or making my own) and we have our cake serving/toasting glasses set.
so if you know of any good places to have a medieval wedding in New York, feel free to leave links to them!!

It can be very stressful planning a wedding. You should reserve your location at least one year ahead of time. Start looking for dresses and decorators also. I think starting a year before gives you enough time for everything. The first thing should be the location.

Start getting an idea of where you would like to have it this winter. Visit the places come June so you know exactly what it will look like. This gives you time to decide between a few locations. If you find a place you love, book about a year and a half in advance to guaranty the date. For bad weather, plan on setting up tents over the ceremony and reception sites if the facility does not have an indoor area as well. You can get tents with roll-down sides to seal it right up if it rains. Good luck! My wedding was outside and it was great. And by the way, the guys always think there is plenty of time, they just don't get it.

The average location books up 6-8 months in advance but more popular locations will be booked 1-2 years ahead. Of course, those will also be the most expensive locations. You can get away with waiting a little while yet if you wish but you can book this early if you already have a good idea of the location you want.
OH - extra note: if you are planning a June wedding, I suggest waiting and looking at locations in May/June of 2007 - that is still quite early, and you can see the locations in the same season as they will be when you get married. This will give you a better idea of what the location will look like then viewing it off season would.

It is always a great idea to start doing your research...however, keep in mind that most places aren't going to book until a year in advance...2.5 years is way beyond 99% of the locations' date books.
As for having an outdoor ceremony...you don't need an backup location, just a tent rental company on your speed dial. Things like that are alwasy good to have, so interview some rental companies who would be available , in case you need them.

I would say about a year in advance, however there is no harm in doing some research and finding suitable locations. Also styles change every year, I would say it's early to decide on a dress, as you may see something closer to the date that is better. Great that you are organised, but some things you can leave for a while yet.

You have to book your wedding venue a year out, specially during a high season date such as yours.
Some places would allow you to book the place further in advance, but then they will ask for a deposit right away, and is not necesary as a year out is the norm.
Since you haven;t decided yet on the wedding venue, use this year in deciding the theme, the colors, the budget and the guest list.
Good luck

I would book a location as soon as you find one that you both like. You do have plenty of time to look, but don't wait too long to start looking. Since you would like to have an outdoor wedding I would look for a location that has indoor and outdoor locations that would work for your wedding. Theknot.com has some wonderful advice.

I would book the location as soon as you both agree on one. And definitely at least 1 year ahead of time. You don't want someone else booking it for their event instead.
Don't panic though. With the wedding 2 years away, you have plenty of time.

I would say a year is enough time. It depends on how soon the place you're looking at gets booked. Most places take booking 2 years ahead (some prob. even further).
