Why don't boxers get presented with trophies after a fight they have won. Where does the belt reward come from?

the belt is what they all want...it's traditional and has history along with it. a boxer would look rather foolish walking down to the ring carrying a trophy.

The belt is historical and its something they wear to signify not only winning the division but being the new champion and defending it against the best.

Trophies are the same in significance its just they way boxing recognises the champions. On special occasions they may reward a champion with a trophy to honour something special Ali vs Frazier III for instance,a trophy was awarded for the fight.

They get belts because you look alot tougher carrying our a big 'ol belt with lots of gold to a fight, than a little faggy trophy(no offense to the world series trophy, super bowl trophy, the Stanley Cup, or any other trophies I may have offended). Trophies are the big finish, belts are the 24/7 status symbol.

yeah like every1 said it's harder 2 carry with gloves, it signafise a champion and i think every sport in the "fight game" has a belt : boxing,REAL wrestling,FAKE wrestling,ufc,pride... theres probly alot more but i think it should also signafie a champion in a fight sport so they get more respect then some1 that know how 2 drive a car,hit a little ball in a hole, shoot a ball in the other teams net... it's not like any other sport the belt is just 4 u and no 1 else it was u who won the belt and the belt can only fit on 1 person... thats what i think.

Belts only come into play in the prfessional ranks, it is a status symbol for when they enter the ring, thay would look a bit of a plonker walking in with a trophy wouldn't they.

All dates back to Lord Lonsdale and the beginning of British Boxing.

I think it's because a fighter is challenged for his title in almost every fight. I guess it was just easier to carry a championship belt to the ring, rather than a bulky trophy.

They lose weight during the fight, so need the belt to hold up their shorts.
