8th Century

Muslim armies invade and occupy most of Spain (At this time Jews made up about 8% of Spain's population). Under Christian rule, Jews had been subject to frequent and intense persecution, but this was alleviated under Muslim rule. Some mark this as the beginning of the Golden age of Jewish culture in Spain.

Christian Crusades begin, sparking warfare with Islam in Palestine. Crusaders temporarily capture Jerusalem in 1099. Tens of thousands of Jews are killed by European crusaders throughout Europe and in the Middle East.

Keep in mind that a lot of Christians, especially those in the U.S. government, aren't interested in protecting the Jews. A central tenet of evangelical Christianity is that the Rapture won't happen until certain conditions are met. Things about Israel's borders and such. They believe in a monstrous battle (Armagdeon) which will take place in the town of Meggido and that most Jews will be utterly and violently destroyed before the Rapture.

Evangelical Christians might be trying to create these conditions, but it's for their own ends, not the protection of the Jews.

The muslims only protected the jews because they used them as slaves, just like they did with anyone else they met. They are still doing this in places today. And why do people still bring up the crusades when comparing islam today with christianity today? however, yes, many jews werekilled during thecrusades, mostly because the christians couldn't tell jes and arabs apart, since they lived in the same cities, and dressed the same. esides, some of the people who went on thecrusades simply just went to find the riches that were supposed to behidden in synagogues and temples there

The holocaust was a wake up call to Christians and although Islam was better then Christianity in how they treated the Jews it does not mean they treated them well.

CHristians started actually reading the bible on their own (rather than having popes etc. tell them what it says) and realized we were supposed to bless the Jews.
