I just responded to another question...the girl is 17 and lives with her boyfriend and his parents and she wanted to know if she should quit her McDonalds job....
I looked through the questions and no one said anything about the fact that this young girl lives with her boyfriend and his parents at 17? Personally, I think his parents ought to be carted off to jail for allowing such a thing.....Am I the only person who sees this behavior as completely irresponsible?????

Yes it's a problem, but clearly (from the answers below) people don't give a shi* anymore. I'm so sick of the "shouldn't judge" crap!!!! We NEED to hold people to standards...for the love of America, why is it called judging when you expect certain behaviors out of people!!!!??? Unfortunately, any age over 16 1/2 the "law" doesn't really have any chance of enforcement.

It's quite possible that the child was emancipated. It happens quite often. Sometimes the parents can't deal with the child and there's nothing more than can be done, so the child wants to live as an adult, making adult decisions. While I don't think I could ever do this to any of my children, I do know adults that have had this done when they were teens.
It's easy for us to judge others when we can't walk in their shoes. I think it's irresponsible of the parents, but I don't know the situation at hand.

Maybe she can't live at home and his parents allowed her to stay with them? We don't know the full story, so can't really judge. Often things are not as "black and white" as we initially think (really, they never are!). So before you rush to judgement, you might want to consider the fact that you don't have all the details of this person's life. I'm not being mean, but simply asking you to think things through a bit more.

I was in this situation and I guess it all depends on the people involved. My mom died when I was 15 years old and I don't have much in the way of other family. I stayed w/my uncle for awhile but then ended up moving in w/ my boyfriend and his parents. For me, it was more about having "parents" and family than anything else.

My 13 year old cousin is pregnant by an 18 year old guy. I went to DHR and they investigated and concluded nothing because she has parental consent to see him (although DHR suggested they be chapperoned from now on). I guess it's not as important as some of us think.

I agree. Living together out of wedlock is such a trashy and irresponsible thing to do. Just get married, dammit!

I don't care what the age of consent is in that state- a minor is a minor. Period.
