Its best to start mild, a blindfold or a silk scarf. Never make knots, its too hard to undo them if somethings wrong. Japanese love ropes are made of soft material that does not hurt, and you can usually find them in the adult novelty section of Spencer's gifts, or any "toy" store. Handcuffs are very very bad! Never use a real one because there's always the chance of losing the key or wrist injury. Fuzzy love cuffs that are padded and don't really "lock" would be best.
Always have a safety word. A word both people agree means STOP and right now! Make it something you wouldn't say normally. Mine is Possums.
Never use bondage to violate your partner in any way they haven't already agreed to. Do not leave your partner tied or gagged as a joke, and don't stick anything where your not supposed to. Gags are not too great of an idea because you can't use the safety word.
As you figure out what you like (tied up, blindfold, etc)
you can move to more hardcore bondage like tying the hands and feet or using collars. Here's a hint: Not a real dog collar!
If bondage is more than just a passing interest look up fetish supply sites on the net to get supplies.
