I brush my teeth twice a day. I've used toothpastes with whitening such as Colgate (like the toothpastes you can just buy with normal toothpaste) for years. I've also used over the counter whitening trays 3 different times over the last 9 years. (And no more than as directed on the box.) I believed that the toothpastes and toothpaste trays that I've previously used, have been safe. I've heard that some whitening products can wear away your enamel. How long and frequent would I have to use these products for it to harm my teeth, and does it ever come back? What are some natural ways that I can whiten my teeth? This is the yellowest they've ever been! During dentist check-ups, do they look for, can they see, and would they tell me if something was wrong with my enamel? I'd be grateful for all the online advice I could get.

baking soda and peroxide the one they use to clean cuts.If that doesn't work then u might want to get some blood work done at the docters cuz certain illnesses as well as diseases etc can do that to your teeth as well.

Some whitening toothpastes are quite abrasive and can wear away surface enamel but if you go for regular check-ups with your dentist he will pick up on that. Damage to the teeth from whitening products does happen but i don't know what products you've been using and what ingredients they contain, even so it would be almost impossible to say how long you would have to use them to cause such damage, i would assume you have used them as instructed but if you are worried visit your dentist.

Another thing is that if there was any serious damage you would have noticed sensitivity from the teeth.
As we get older the teeth gradually get more yellow because the colour of our teeth actually comes from the dentine not the enamel so enamel is thinner thus dentine is more visible.
The best way to whiten teeth is professionally by your dentist it gives great results if done properly! Good luck!

Teeth yellow with age. I'm not so sure that the whitening agents are all that safe, so I wouldn't use them all the time. I've found that drinks like tea and coffee can make the teeth yellow quicker. Rinse as soon as you can or better yet brush your teeth after drinking coffee or tea. Cleaning your teeth with baking soda is a great way to remove some stains. I sometimes use a toothpaste at night called Crest bright white or something like that and I find it has helped to whiten my teeth. I usually try to avoid fluoride, so I don't use this toothpaste that often only when I feel my teeth need some whitening.

Using the whitening products will make your teeth more pourus, hence their ability to take on tea and coffee stains. Age will make them yellow too. Also, check the colour of your skin and lips. If they are pale, your teeth may also look more yellow than usual. Red or dark lipstick will suddenly make them look whiter, even if they are yellowish. Strange but true. Your safest bet is to get teeth whitening done by a dentist, but ask questions first as some of the stuff they use is the same enamal-wearing product as you will find on the shelves at the chemist.

I don't know why you think "should be" is being said at all.
Age does play a role in colouration.Development, genetics and oral hygiene are some other factors in colourization.Generally speaking ,their is no OTC product that will harm the enamel of your teeth.A Dr. will know what if anything will effect a safe method to enhance your smile using a safe whitening agent.Of course during a complete oral exam your dentist will inform you of any enamel anomalies or defects.

Commercial tooth whiteners use hydrogen peroxide and
are expensive and inconvenient. A cheap and natural
tooth whitening home remedy uses few strawberries
but certain precautions have to be taken.
