The Department of Health warns against routine use of soy-based infant formulas because of the high content of phytoestrogens - compounds that mimic the action of the female hormone oestrogen. It is feared this could pose a risk to the long-term reproductive health of infants boys/girls i.e severe problems such as abnormal physical development, early puberty, conception, pregnancy, and cancers.
This has been known for several years though not wide public knowledge - infact some GPs still recommend soya as a suitable replacement for a child with milk allergy/intolerance!
Babies are usually allergic to both kinds of milk.

So what's your suggestion then to mom's who can no longer breastfeed, and whose children honestly cannot keep down milk-based? My son had severe problems/reactions to milk-based, but was great on soy.

I hear your concerns, but until there's another option for moms in my situation, there's nothing else to do.

Is eczema caused by milk based things? Soy formula should only be used if baby is lactose and milk intolerant. There is a difference.

10% of all people lack a gene that allows them to digest beans and shouldn't eat any form of soy. I'd heard about the phytoestrogens but at the time it wasn't clear if it was contamination or naturally occuring.
Also, eating a lot of soy during pregnancy can cause/aggravate peanut and/or legume allergy in the child.
