I continually idea it replaced into unusual to tip them. yet my husband is the cable guy and some days he comes abode with $20 suggestion. once you've the money, and are appreciative, then do percentage! purely comprehend that they do no longer ought to pay taxes on the information and many times the cable adult males make a killing of their paychecks. some adult males at my husband's employer make as a lot as $6,000 a week. So tip in case you want. It received't harm, now will it? yet what you need to do is say "you should use my bathing room in case you'll like." Or "am i able to'm getting you something to drink?" because those 2 low fee issues cause them to a good purchase extra mushy! they don't get to bypass to the rest room all day and ought to apply your bathing room to alleviate themselves! and to Jeff D: you somewhat are an a$$ho(e :) and FYI employers do enable suggestion. they don't care. Employers receives a fee 3 circumstances as a lot as each and each and every pastime that the cable guy does.

No. I would offer them a drink, but that's about it. They earn a wage the same as I do and I don't get tipped for my work. I have had to work my way up and nobody was tipping me when I was making little over minimum wage. If people don't like what they are doing, or aren't making enough, then they should do what they can to better themselves or go back to school to get a better job. I think people have gone way overboard with tipping these days. I tip servers in restaurants because most of them don't even make minimum wage.

don't tip, my husband has worked in the custom home theater industry for years and has done a lot of his work in million dollar + homes. You don't even get a tip for that kind of work. So why would you tip the Dish Network guy?
but as suggested, do offer a snack or drink

Usually you tip service people who perform a regular service for you (housekeeper), semi-regular service for you (hair dresser) or a service on the spot (waitress). Tipping not only shows your appreciation for a person's hard work and dedication, it also fosters future business relationships. A cable guy is on a payroll and not going to be performing a regular service for you, therefore you are not socially obligated to tip him, unless he fulfills a special request for you that you asked for after his arrival and that is not on the work order - then and only then are you socially obligated to offer him a tip. However, if it is a hot day or you are baking cookies, there is nothing wrong with offering him a soda or a cookie fresh out of the oven.

Many satellite providers are franchises, so the rate of pay will be determined by the local owner.
It's common for cable and satellite installers to earn commission-based pay. Several years ago I saw them offering $100 per installation.
I don't know about you, but for 20 minutes of work + 30 minutes driving time, I feel he should be tipping me.

I don't think it's necessary- since it's a one time deal thing. If a person came for repairs on a regular basis, or did yard work or something on schedule, a holiday tip would be nice, but in this case I wouldn't.

I was going to say it's not necessary and sometimes the employees are not allowed to accept tips, but after reading Dean's response, I'm going to agree with him. Good Luck!

My husband was going to be the cable guy until he learned that he would only make 9.75 an hour!! That just wasn't enough for that kind of hassle! If you can afford it, I think it would be a wonderful Holiday gesture.

ANY service provided should be tipped. regular services provided should be once a year. and single services should be tipped at time of rendering. i tipped my cable guy and now have the best cable service and he is a friend. we drink beer regularly. better tips=better service while minimum wage=minimum effort
