Raw meat should be kept chilled. It has been recommended that if you want to thaw out your meat, it is safer in the refrigerator (putting it there at least 1 day before u intend to use it) or let it thaw under cool running water. Bacteria quickly develops in raw meat..... How long though, do u leave it by the gas fire?

Depends how long for , any bacteria in meat only needs a bit of warmth to start gettin it's groove on and you don't want that , will be ok for a bit as long as you make sure that when you do cook the meat you are at the right temp to nuke the blighters gl

definitely no! (Both to leaving raw meat by the gas fire which would be a bacterial breeding ground, and to cutting up raw meat for food ... rather get some veg ;-))
