it tells the time when you press time and when you turn on the lights the lights come on on the radio. so is it dead or is there a problem with the radio that can be fixed?!?

Its the radio dodge was very bad with there elecronics when it came to there selection of components its not a connection if the radio shows the time when you push the nob inside that radio is several boards when they made them they put them to close togeter so they heat up and burn one another out. Unforunitly even if you bought the car new that isnt warrenteed unless it was under 2 years old. They have had this problem since mid 80s. You can sometimes find a great deal though at your local junk yard as the car you have is very popular and with that comes more going to the junk yard because of accedents some are like new and can get them for about 50 bucks instead of 4-5 hundred for a new aftermarket one and install.

Generally there are two power leads to a radio--one that runs on battery power, and one that runs on alternator power. My guess is that you have blown an in-line fuse on the alternator side. Check the fuse panel. If it is good, consider getting a replacement radio--I bought one for my 1996 Crown Victoria ex-cop car that works fine, got it on ebay.
