Check out West Elm, I like their stuff. However my husband and I build our own so we look in magazines and remake things. Ikea is great but there furniture is really cheap. So if you have money, go for something a little more quality, If you are in college rolling pennies for beer, Ikea is awesome.

An urban dweller would be wise to take a tip from the euro style furniture found in retailers such as Ikea. Since far fewer Europeans own their homes compared to Americans, even their kitchen cabinets are removable. Since Urban dwellers often rent, the ability to disassemble and move furniture, often through narrow halls and doors would seem a priority. Indulging in the pit group or entertainment center or Armoire should probably be left to suburbanites who are less likely to move frequently. While many of us buy for beauty, personally, I'd be focusing on the practical.

Modern furniture. Search "italian furniture" and you will get an idea of what the latest trends are.

While I personally avoid buying from Ikea because I don't like the idea of millions of people having the same thing, I have to admit some of their stuff is worth the money.

I found Lyfestyle Solutions to be affordable and modern enough for me. You can find their website or their producs if you do a search.

The most important thing: buy a platform bed. I still don't get the boxspring covered by a skirt.
