Last night it took me literally THREE HOURS to do my math homework! It was only sixteen problems and my math teacher, Mrs. Whitley, barely even explained it to us! My dad didn't even know how to do it. So today I go into school and I don't get credit for it! Now, I missed seven homeworks this marking period, and that is because I didn't do them and I accept that. I understand that part. But now when I try to do my homework, and work three hours on it, she gives me no credit for it because I didn't show my work correctly! I tried to not cry, but I had to. I couldn't help it. So not only did she give me no credit for working my a$$ off last night, but she made me so embarrassed for crying in front of EVERYBODY! Was that fair?

I don't think embarassing and making a student cry is mark of a good teacher. Is there any way you can change classes? It also might help if you parents write a note to her about how long you worked on it and how they didn't understand it either. If you can't switch classes look for some tutoring in math. A tutor can help explain your homework and work on it with you, that way it won't take so long and you'll actually have a chance to understand it.

Look I can understand your teachers point of view and yours too. Your teachers intentions weren't to make you cry in front of the class, but everyone knows that with math work you have to show your work otherwise the teacher is led to believe that you used a calculator or computer to do the math for you. It would be easy for you teacher to assume that you took the easy way out because you track record shows that you put no effort into your other homework assignments. The real question here is was it fair for you not to do your other assignments and is your Teacher justified in thinking like she does? Probably so. I'm sorry this isn't what you wanted to hear, but its the truth. Give her a reason to believe in you and she will. Hope this helped.

Your parents should arrane a confrence with your teacher. A teacher is suppose to explain all work he or she gives out, it is not like you can give a child something and hope they guess what they are suppose to do. You are suppose to explain what to do step by step so that the kids understand it.
I think that is kind of stupid that she is not giving you credit for not showing work but on the other hand she may think you are cheating.
Perhaps you should try going to a homework forum and try asking for help or maybe look up the information online, that is what I use to do.

Beleive me, I know how you feel.
I was NEVER good at math, in the least. One day I asked my teacher why he never called on me in class, and he said in front of everybody, Because i'm scared of you.
It hurt so bad, and I got made fun of all year for that.
We would be sent home with a couple hours worth of homework from each class, and added together each night it was 16 hours of homework, 8 classes a day, two hours each class, thats too much f*cking homework.
And he never explained well, My mom told me that she didn't even learn this kinda math in college. And anytime I was confused I didn't get any help from the teacher. Because of his "fear"
So I switched schools, my mom got most of the teachers fired for their lack of interest in me. My new math teacher will spend an entire class period explaining one single problem if even one person didn't understand.
See if you can get a math tutorer, and have your parents go in for a conferance with the teacher and principal. And if you need any moral support feel free to email me.

Yes, it is fair.
The reason you didn't know how to do the assignment after trying for 3 hours is because you didn't do some of previous homeworks. Math is a subject where you build on top of previous work. If you are missing much of the earlier work, you don't have a fighting chance. The fact you tried for 3 hours mean nothing. You can't all the sudden decide to do some work, and blame your inability to your teacher. I'm sorry, you brought this on your own.

When you have this much difficulty in a class with a teacher then you should hold your feelings and instead become proactive. Set up a meeting to meet with your teacher and bring a parent along. If your parents aren't able to come in then meet with your counselor or the school principal. Sometimes teachers make mistakes or don't realize how far behind a particular student is.

don't listen to the people who say you brought it on yourself...I can understand that you have incomplete assignment because you cant understand the work..maybe your teacher is doing her job right...but kids learn in different ways and you obviously have a different style of learning...look...you need to let someone know why your grades are falling behind...weather it's your teacher or your parents...and thats a different story...cuz if a teacher made my kid cry in front of the class...I'd be a pissed off b*tch...anyway...if you can't tell your teacher to her face...try writing her a note explaining why you have incomplete assignments, hopefully she'll offer some extra tutoring. Personally, I think your parents need to step up and try to help resolve this. Whatever you decide...just don't give up, you can do it! good luck kid

If you aren't doing it correctly, then maybe you should ask to see her after class or after school and have her show you exactly how to do the problems. I think it was fair of her. And you probably dont knwo how to do it because you haven't been doing your homework in the first place. Try asking for help. Teachers love it when students own up to their responsibilities

No that is not fair and not good teaching habits for the teacher. If you were my child I would be down at that school in the principals office with that teacher explaining her actions.
Do not feel emabarrassed sweetie. I cried A LOT in college, in class in chemistry.
You need to get your parents involved! That teacher sounds like she could have personal problems and is taking out on you guys. Let me know how it turns out.
Keep your head high and tell your parents

I strongly suggest you get your parents, who were witnesses to the amount of time you put into the homework, to help you out here. They might be able to talk to the teacher, and tell her that you put in three hours on the homework, and it would be appreciated if she could give you some credit for the effort you put in. If this type of homework problem continues, then go with your parents to your guidance counselor about the issue. She might be able to offer some assistance.
