Get a remote control car and chase them away with it when they go near the tree. This also will distract them and get their minds on something else. My friend does this with his cats and it really works. I got braggin rights-my kitties FINALLY outgrew Christmas tree wrecking this year! Good luck & Merry Christmas!

Get a bottle that can spray water. Adjust it so you can reach the cat from 5 to 8 feet. Take a few hours near the tree (or any other thing that attract them too much). Make sure you push-push them a few times everytime they get close or touch it. They'll hate that and get away. Stay calm and don't move too much so they don't associate the water with you.
But help yourself : no too much attractive things near the floor, cover the wires with a blanket, no cat food in the gift under the tree.
And the soonest you do it, the better it is. Older, they'll understand they can't go in the tree when you're around...

You don't.. I know from 36 kitten experiences. The best thing to do is move all the decorating bulbs higher up on the tree so their little paws can't reach them. You can also try a squirt bottle full of water and yell "NO!" when you squirt them.

Get a clean spray bottle (nothing that had chemical in it). Fill it with water and keep it handy. Every time they get near the tree, squirt them with it. Pretty soon, all they have to do is see you pick up the bottle and they will back off! Just be sure not to spray them for ANY other reason or they won't get the message! Good luck!

Spray bottles, that is the only thing that keeps my kitten out of our tree, everytime he sees it he gets out from underneath the tree and hides!

I was just about to ask this same question! Do you think it will work for Ferrets too?? I have 2 kittens, 3 ferrets and a mess of Christmas tree ordiments on the floor every morning.
I think I'll try baxteray's answer. Thanks.

There is a product you can buy that if you spray it on something it should keep the cats away. I think it is called "keep away" or something. Should be able to find it in your local pet store. It is suppose to work for all pets.
Personally, I have two pets and I haven't had much luck keeping them away from anything.

My mother in law bought me this stuff called "cat and kitten repellent" as a training method. It doesn't stink all that bad. BUT it is obvious my cat don't like it. Cause I asked this SAME question. Only I have one cat not 3.

I don't mean to sound cruel, but a water gun.
Not a "super soaker" but something little from the dollar store.
My kittens learned fairly quickly after a few squirts.

Well, if you have about an hour of free time....you could sit beside the tree and when they go to play in it squirt them with a water gun...cats hate that...have fun with your kitties!!!
