What is the equivalent of a priest in Hinduism?

What responsibilities do they have in the community?

If there is no equivalent, who would someone go to, for advice or to ask questions about the religion?

I am thinking in terms of addressing the needs of a Hindu before they went into a Care home, for a short while.

They don't really have a "priesthood" - they have Holy Men called sadhus. Sadhus are often sanyasi, or renunciates (like a monk), who have left behind all material and sexual attachments and live in caves, forests and temples all over India.

The word comes from the Sanskrit "to practice", referring to the practice of meditation.
