It can be made many ways with many different ingredients added, but the secret is to make the rice in advance and let it dry out a bit. I usually wouldn't make fried rice unless it was left over from the day before, otherwise it is too sticky.
So take the rice, fry it up in a little bit of oil or butter. Add veggies or meat if you would like. Beat an egg in a separate bowl and add it to the pan with the rice and continue stirring.
Enjoy!

This is a basic recipe for fried rice that you can add to as desired. If adding other ingredients, increase the number of eggs to 3.
INGREDIENTS:
1 green onion
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon salt
Pepper to taste
4 tablespoons oil for stir-frying, or as needed
4 cups cold cooked rice
1 - 2 tablespoons light soy sauce or oyster sauce, as desired
PREPARATION:
Wash and finely chop the green onion. Lightly beat the eggs with the salt and pepper.
Heat a wok or frying pan and add 2 tablespoons oil. When the oil is hot, add the eggs. Cook, stirring, until they are lightly scrambled but not too dry.
Remove the eggs and clean out the pan.
Add 2 tablespoons oil. Add the rice. Stir-fry for a few minutes, using chopsticks or a wooden spoon to break it apart. Stir in the soy sauce or oyster sauce as desired.
When the rice is heated through, add the scrambled egg back into the pan. Mix thoroughly. Stir in the green onion. Serve hot.

I'm sure this isn't the correct way to make it, but I start off by boiling the rice (Tai or Basmati) in vegetable stock. While it is slowly boiling, I prepare a very fluffy omelette by adding some milk to the eggs. Once the omelette is ready I lay it out on a cutting board and slice the omelette into very thin small strips.
Once the rice is ready, sauté some dry and fresh onion in a little butter or sesame oil in a saucepan, add the rice tossing it with two spatulas so as not to stick, and then add the omelette also tossing. You can add some Soy Sauce and 5 Spice to give it taste.

Diced Carrots, Celery, White Onion and Green Onion
Rice
Butter or vegetable oil
Soy Sauce
Egg
Sautee' the vegetables first, until the Onions become slightly transparent, add a dash of salt and pepper. Add the egg and mix together with the vegetables. Add the rice and on the outside of the fried rice, add the soy sauce (if your using a "wok" type pan) if not add soy sauce till the rice becomes either a dark brown or light brown in color (you may want to sample it at this point to see if you have enough soy sauce added).

Bacon And Egg Fried Rice
Yield: 4 Servings
Ingredients
3 c leftover cooked rice
1/4 lb bacon; diced
1 lg onion; diced or slivered (up
- to)
2 eggs; beaten
1 tb soy sauce; to taste
1 tb cooking wine; to taste
1/4 ts black pepper; to taste
Instructions
This is more like American homestyle, not Chinese-resaurant style:
Break up the lumps in the cold rice with your hand; set aside. Prepare
other ingredients before cooking. Mix the soy sauce and wine in a small
dish.
Fry the bacon in a wok on high heat until nearly crisp. Remove most of the
fat, leaving ~2 tbsp or less. Add the onions and fry with bacon until soft
and golden. Push the bacon/onions to the side and scramble the eggs in the
fat at the bottom of the wok. Add the rice and mix everything together
until rice is hot. Sprinkle with soy sauce/wine and pepper and stir to mix.

Add your cooked rice to a large wok and stir fry it for a few minutes. When the rice is hot move it to the edges of the wok so that you have the centre of the wok exposed, add a little more oil to the wok and pour in your beaten egg. Cook the eggs on the exposed part of the wok stiring them with a fork so you create what you would decribe as scrambled egg, when the egg is cooked bring the rice back into the centre of the wok and mix the cooked egg and rice together.
Easy and tasty. Try adding cooked Chicken and Peas.
Hope this helps :-)

I take cooked white rice, then put it in a wok or large pan with oil, and then add soy sauce to your taste, add any vegetables you prefer or you don't have to if you don't want to, then what I do, is push the rice to the edges of the pan, so that you have a center space, and break an egg in the middle, stir it around the center to cook the egg, then mix it in with the rest of your rice that you had pushed to the edges. Then add sliced up scallions/green onions if you like.
