She shakes all the time. This is so unlike her. She's is usually playful and a great watch dog but something in the house scared her and I have no idea what it was. She doesn't eat much and just tries to get in corners and hides. I don't know what to do for her and I feel so bad. It came on suddenly and I can't imagine what it was that scared her. No one hit her and there were no loud noises or anything like that. Anyone have any idea of what I can do to snap her out of this? I give her love and try to play with her but she wants no part of it. I'm at a loss as to how to help her. Any ideas would be so appreciated.

I did call the vet and he said just love her and coddle her for now and there is nothing else to do for her. Something scared her, thats all he said. I do live alone with her and when this started, no one else has been in the house. No one has abused her. There has been no firecrackers around and I have not changed anything in the house since this started. She does eat a little but not like before. She does drink when she gets thirsty enough. She seems happier when shes outside. She is always on a lead outside, I don't let her loose. Thank you all for the answers. I do appreciate it.

As of yesterday, I'm happy to write that my dog is back to normal. I don't know what was wrong but she greeted me at the door, all happy and wagging her tail as if nothing ever happened. Whatever scared her is gone! Its like nothing ever happened. I don't know what did it but shes like she was before. Thank God!!! I have my old dog back and shes happy and playing again. Thank you all for the wonderful answers and the good luck you all sent me! I appreciate it. Nice to know there are dog lovers out there! Thank you all!!!

Poor thing. Whatever it was must of been traumatic. Just keep doing what you're doing. Hopefully time will help and she'll forget all about it.

i had a dog like that one time same thing happened noone hit her but someone was keeping a secret. we found out that someone we knew that the dog was around not very much was letting people in the house when we were gone and at home sneeking around and noone could see it when we were there because they hid in the house. beeing nosey and planning rape. one of the individuals kept the dog custody in the basement for like 10 minutes and thats what happened to her had her by the collar and was torturing her hind end with a finger and making sure there was no proof of it. thats hatred for ya but im not trying to scare you about it all you have to do is do something fun and unusual the dog never gets to do like take a trip in the car for a while and try playing with the dog in public where there isnt very many people or a few people the dog will snap out of it

I have a dog that has seizures. He can tell when they are coming and acts the same way. I am not saying this is whats wrong with your dog but, perhaps there is a health issue causing her to act this way. She may be having pain. Then again I just had a dog that was freaking out over a new pair of fur gloves my daughter owns. I still would take to vet. Whats the worst it can do?

Sudden changes in behavior like this can mean several things. Take her to your vet - this is not sounding like it's just a behavior issue. Extended periods of stress without a tangible reason need to be investigated by a professional! Good luck, hope your dog is OK.

* I'm not sure if I agree with your vet....sorry. I'd try at the least to find a behaviorist, or a holistic practitioner who can help. Try some of the natural calming products for dogs, to help her out (it certainly can't hurt) and be careful of the doggie Prozac - some of those meds are just muscle relaxants, that do nothing to stop the dog's fearful state of mind!

My mother's dog followed her around and acted scared to the point of wetting on the floor in trails as she followed my mom. About three weeks after this started she was outside and had a massive siezure with foaming at the mouth and all that. We thought she had gotten poisoned and rushed her to the vet ER. Turned out it was epilepsy.
The vet said she may have been having tiny siezures and it was scaring her. When she went on meds all of her wierd actions went away very quickly.
I would consult a vet with that severe of a change in personality.

This happen once to me, well, my german shepperd. In México the religious celebrations come along with lots of firecrackers and that scares the dogs and hurts their ears. Even if you think that is not that loud... they have very sensitive ears. Eventually will go alone. Also check for ear infection and fever related to. Hope this will help. Suerte amiga

there are easy ways to tell if the dog has been abused.. i know of no other reason for a dog to hide in the corner... unless your dog can see ghosts in your house or you live in a sub zero climate. if she isn't eating what she would normally scarf down and she is shaking (the two could be cause and effect)- take her to the vets

Once when I got a New bedspread my dog barked at it for hours. He did the same thing with a new light fixture. You never know what will make them react that way. Are you sure you haven't brought something new home? If it continues I would take him to the vet!

Take her to the vet before she becomes physically ill from this. If the vet can't find a medical problem, sh may prescribe doggie Prozac until your dog can get past this.

I would get her to a vet right away. Do you have any lead based paint in your home? (Usually common in older homes). I had a dog that chewed some paint chips as we were stripping the woodwork and she ended up with lead poisoning. It starts off neurological and them not acting "right" and we had to put her down because she tried to attack me and also my husband.

Best of luck to you.
