Jesus cursed a fig tree at one point (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John all talk about this), maybe that is what you are thinking of.

the dogwood tree. it used to grow tall and mighty. it was used to make Christ's cross. that is why it has the shape of flower it has now.and that's why the branch's are shaped as they are now. the dog wood try's to show regret, for it by producing the flowers and shape and size we see now. it also comes into flower around Easter too. you also will find it planted at most church's also. and parts of the tree of heaven was used also. both will be seen in heaven. and the fig tree wasn't bearing fruit at that time as well.
