I would like to kill a mole at very close range. I was hoping to find a very small bullet. Does anyone know of a bullet that is smaller than .22 caliber? (I've seen the 4.6x30mm HK, those are more powerful than the .22) I want something wimpier.

You can go with the air rifle and if you are in the city that is your best choice other than a trap. But there are several different .22's out there. Probably what you need is the .22 Short CB. I'm not sure if this link will work.

Here is CCI's on line catalog. Scroll down and you will find the Short CB, or maybe some other special .22. They used to make a .22 BB, but I don't see it listed anymore. Hope this helps. And good luck, them durn moles is pesky critters.

For wimpier and < .22 caliber.

Perhaps the .17 WRM caliber. There are others, but this is the most popular and easy to get - and a little wimpier. It isn't really intended for close range, but it would work if unscoped and sighted in at PBR.

A .177 caliber pellet gun would also work.

.22 and wimpier (but not smaller):
Any of the other .22 rim-fires: .22 long, .22 short, .22 CB, and .22 BB (roughly In order of power).

If you want something wimpier and cheap, pull a .22 long rifle bullet out of the case, dump about 1/3-1/2 of the powder out, and stick the bullet back in.

I have a policy of never telling anyone what gun to use.
I just read the questions and answer it.
Bullet < .22 cal and less power.
So no darts, sling-shots, shotguns, rocks, and only a .177 air gun with a pellet.

However, I'd think that you could probably hire a professional (or an exterminator) to do it by the time you buy a rile and wimpy ammo to kill a mole at short range.

That mole must've really pissed you off! :)

A strong pellet gun might be the best choice. A pellet will kill a mole just about as well as a .22. The other option might be a .22 short which is not very powerful, does not make a very loud report from the barrel and would be more than enough to kill a mole. I would say a pellet gun that has a feet per second number above 850 would work.

If you use a 22 get some ammo called super calibri, made by aguila, it has no gunpowder in it, it's all primer, it would be more than enough to kill a mole with, it has very little sound when fired, sounds like an air rifle.

.17 HMR & .17 M2 are both smaller than a .22. Of course a shotgun would limit risk of richocet. You can also use a .22 short or CB cap. A air rifle in .177, .20 or .22 would also work.

Bullet - HMR .17

toy - bb or pellet gun

I don't think I would use the .17 for a mole, too much charge behind it. Stick with the 22 or buy a mole trap.

Two calibres come to mind the .177 in both air rifle or powder. The other calibre is the .218B My uncle got this firearm in the split of my grandparents estate. It pumps alot of power for a small calibre. The stories I have heard from family when using this firearm are good. This is a good calibre.

BB - .177 caliber, and air powered. If you want something wimpier than that and you you are talking about a slingshot.

.17 is smaller than .22. They make a .17 rifle than isn't a magnum called the Mach 2.

A .22 short has less velocity then a .22 long rifle. You can shoot it out of any .22. If you go smaller there is a .17 HMR, but it is more powerful.
