I am NOT saying you shouldnt come to the R&S board, its free, I dont care if your here or not. But why, out of curiosity, to SOME of you try so hard to change Christian minds? Be it pointing out "contridictions" in the Bible, or thinking none of us believe in Science, whatever form it takes, why do you?
Do you believe you really will change someones mind, trying to save them from themselves? Or is it really just because the antagonizing is so much fun?
Dont get me wrong, sometimes you all get me thinking, and I go looking for more knowledge about one subject or another. But it has never shaken my faith, and has often reaffirmed it. There are some really great non-christians on the board too. But I am just wondering whats your motive?

Moiraes.....Your here because you want to be left alone? That makes no sense. If you wanted to be left alone, this would be the last place you should be!

To open people's eyes so they don't think they have to 'get rid' of those who don't agree at all that the Old Testament deity is real. I guess for some, it's a defensive role.
Still, antagonizing can be fun.
It's good to see or learn something new.
Sometimes, it's a way to vent.

the only thing i'm trying to change about Christian's is the fact they don't leave me alone. Other wise I could care less what they choose to believe that's them it doesn't effect my life. But that's the point though isn't it. Religion shouldn't effect anyone but the person that believes it. I had a meeting yesterday and before the meeting they wanted everyone to hold hands and pray. WHY? it has nothing to do with me. I didn't come to pray I came for a meeting that I have to sit in for 8 Hours.
I'm not trying to save anyone from themselves and yes sometimes I mess with people and those are usually the days when I just have really had enough and it's more of a vent session than an answering session and I may be wrong for that but it isn't In an effort to convert anyone. It's truly out of frustration from everyone trying to convert me.
It seems to me that the more of a good person you are without religion the more people try to convert you. I have actually had people say " you're so nice I know you're a believer right?" but when I say no it becomes more of a problem for me because they start bringing me pamphlets and angels and stuff. telling me I might as well be a christian because alot of my beliefs are tied into being peaceful. I just want to be peaceful and left alone.
Other than my bad days I really don't mess with anyone.

I don't think you understand us Atheists. We are not out to antagonize. We are merely trying to educate the ignorant among us. There are in fact contradictions in the Bible. This is correct. One only need look at different translations or if one were so inclined compare books of the Bible. You will find many missing from depending on denomination. This just proves that religion caters to those who wish to hear what they want and justify their ignorant views.
Now. I don't know if I will change someone’s mind. Frankly I don't care. It would a better world if people were grounded in realty. Nevertheless, I understand people's need to believe in something. It makes them uncomfortable, it makes you obviously uncomfortable. Ask yourself do you really hear God talk back to you, or is it merely the sound of flatulence. Maybe a bit old cheese digesting. Don't make up stuff. Don't create something that isn't already there. Life was beautiful and simple with out complicating it with God. An invention of man which has out stayed its welcome.
I am glad you have unshaken faith. It proves that you are a bonehead. So am I. Nevertheless when I am wrong about something I admit it. Take evolution for example, many uneducated people can't even grasp the concept. They try to debate something they have no clue about.
"What’s my motive?"
This is the best part of your question. I believe that people should think before they open there mouths. How many Gods are there? Are they all the same. Are the Jews forsaken? Are the Muslims wrong? They claim they got the last message from Santa Claus. What do you say to that? How come people who shout and profess the loudest are the same people advocating hate, destruction, war, molesting pages, racist, bigots? How come the nice people I know are in fact godless? How come Muslim really affirms there faith 5 times a day and you can only go to Church on Sunday and that’s what Good Enough for Government Work? (As well molesting pages or alter boys? Hmmm...)
Sure I am picking out all the rotten apples of your faith. Nevertheless if you all are so faithful and good - and you have the monopoly on ethics - why are their any rotten apples? Don't give me that God gives us our own destiny crap. Sounds like to me God is an A. Hole then. Think about your God then picture in the same breath. Genocide, cancer, wasps, fleas, snakes, your mother in law, W, Hitler, hell the list goes on. I think we are better of with out God.
Since I have gone to the trouble I will let you in on a little secrete. There is a great religion out there, yes out there, and it’s called PHILOSOPHY. TRY IT SOME TIME. You can explore all the same questions with out the negative of God smiting his own creatures or damning you to hell. LOVE. P

I am atheist but have a big interest in Religion as I am a Raelian. I like coming on here so I can try and help spread the truth about lifes origins on Earth. I do understand though that if you are Christian you will probably never change your faith, just like my parents, but at least you will know about an alternative answer to how life came to be on Earth.
Have a nose at the below link out of curiosity as you say you do go looking for more knowledge.
We like you believe that life on Earth was created, but instead of a mystical being creating it, it was a team of scientists who were mistaken for Gods when they returned.

I'm sure there are different motives, some less noble than others. I know some atheists are natural teachers - they bristle at the idea that anyone can walk around with a silly notion in their head. Teachers also know that even when the students refuse to accept the import of the lesson, sometimes the kernel of it will pop up in their head later, sometimes many years later, to assist them in making a decision. If nothing else, it forces them to give some weight to critical thinking - and consider that not everyone goes along with the pack.

For the same reason Christians try to hard to convert everyone. We believe that we are right and you are kidding yourselves.
And to be honest, it is fun to be sarcastic; you guys take everything to seriously. So, you screw up and curse once in a while. All of a sudden you are going to hell for one little word (Not the greatest example).
To me, Christianity is one giant overzealous cult. And it's true. Look up the definition of cult and you'll see what I mean. You listen blindly to your priests and what have they done to repay you? They abuse your trust, deface the names you have given them and destroy the lives of your children.
And yes, there are horribly twisted holes in the Bible. All of you are completely disregarding the fact that other books have been found that were supposed to be part of the Bible. They have been authenticated. There is no conspiracy to "shake your faith". The fact is that the book you take so literally has been grossly edited and much of what it originally stood for has been erased. Do your research. Or is paying attention to history against your religion now too?
Christians are arrogant. They bother the atheists and agnostics, so yea, we are going to push right back at you. Don't like it? Stop trying to force what you believe down our throats.
Religion starts wars. It's reality. Get used to it.
Israel and Palestine?
Hitler?
And more.

Many of the other atheists on this board have posted questions I asked my religious instructors when I was still trying to be religious. I'm curious as to whether religious people have been able to resolve the apparent contradictions for themselves, so that's one reason I'm here.
For the most part, though, I just don't like being misrepresented, and I've seen many questions on this forum that have made ridiculous assertions about what motivates atheists or how we're deficient.

As long as Christianity, as well as several of the other "ultimate truths", have as their end and gleefully sought after goal, the END OF THE WORLD, and as long as they believe that their rights are being violated if they are denied the opportunity to use the coercive power of the state to shove their god down every ones throat, you will have to put up with us being in your face. Why should we abandon a forum where we can let you know that you will not be allowed to carry out the silly "End Times" rubbish that you seem to forget would include the rest of us.

Well, why do Christians do what they do? Why do they challege other religions minds? Why do they constantly adapt new ideas to their faith? Why did Christians give Atheist a bad name for generations? Do you believe changing an atheists mind will save them from damnation? My motive is logic. Why is your reality based on superstition. Its much like how you believe why people cant just accept God because you know he's true.

Did you know that being left alone also means an end to faith based laws and by speaking out against you people anywhere I can lets others know that they don't have to take your BS?
Take your ideas of creating a christian nation and shove it.
Oh look, NH has already covered it for me.
