Not necessarily, you can go wireless broadband although most providers throw a phone line in free.

If you are in the UK (you mention BT) and you have a laptop then you can pop into many places and log on for free.

I live in Southwark, all our libraries have free wi-fi. As do Starbucks and many pubs. Nice, a pint and msn :)

While most internet connections are via the good old copper wire you can get cable which doesn't need a landline but instead uses infra-red light in optical fibres.
Cable is usually faster than standard broadband however you should be careful about NTL Telewest, and try to avoid long contracts.
My view is to get talk talk free broadband like me until you can be sure about telewest's customer service.

So how are you connected now?????
Ask the person who's computer you are using!
Or
Get a usb wireless adaptor, and sit in Mc Donald's, and use theirs for free.
Or use the next door neighbours wifi connection.
Spend a couple of thousand and install satellite networking.
Or just get your BT line re-connected!
Internet by cable is faster, so contact NTL.

You need to get landline connected before you can get the internet.Daemon Home is a good internet provider (unlimited downloads etc) but you need your phone line connected first. Be careful who you choose for internet as many companys lock you into a minimum term contract which may limit your downloads etc & they often charge a lot of dosh 4 not much product

you will get entry to the web by your cellular telephone. there are ideas to connect them on your pc (eg bluetooth) yet beware, it truly is not the 'continually on' broadband. It bears extra resemblance to the old type dial-up cyber web connections that we use to have. this signifies that you pay for each 2d you're on-line and at cellular charges which will quickly get very intense priced. in case you percentage a connection then hat way lies telephone bill insanity once you're attempting to type it out between you. See if there is an Open (ie unsecured) instantaneous community interior of decision of your workstation. Open the initiating Menu and the connect to, then seem for instantaneous Networks in decision. you would favor to attempt various of places around the flat.

If you are in an NTL or Telewest area no you do not. Check on their websites to see if you can.

No, you do not need a land line. Contact your cell phone provider. They can set you up with a card that links your laptop with your cell phone service. It's not as fast as DSL, but it is service. Hope that helps.
