I have a Brazilian friend who wants to visit friends in Canada. She is unemployed in Brazil and owns no assets there. She has already bought her airline ticket. Will she be able to get a refund for her ticket if her visa is denied?

It is hard in her case. The reason I tell you straight is that she doesn't have a job in Brazil which means the Canadian consulate will see her as a possible candidate to stay in Canada after her tourist visa expire. Another thing is possessions. If she doesn't have anything in Brazil to hold her back like owning a house, job or children she will be denied too.
I think the airline company will refund her ticket 70% or more.

It's going to be very difficult for her to obtain a visa.
The only way is if a Canadian gives a letter of guarantee, which states that you will lodge and feed your friend
She will need to produce that letter at the same time of application.
If the visa is turned down, a refund will depend on the type of air ticket she bought.
Don't forget she will need a firm return booking to BRAZIL
