I am considering moving from Britain to Australia for a year, maybe more if I like it. I've heard that Australia operates a points system where they let you into the country if your total points exceed a certain number. Is there anywhere on the internet where I can enter in my details and find out how many points I currently have?

I am a teacher and 25, so hopefully those nice Aussies will let me in!!

As a teacher you get the highest amount of points possible (60) and u need 2 years experience. I am going on what I learnt last year when I tried 2 stay! You need 2 get your skill assessed too. go to www.immi.gov.au or www.austraslia.org.uk and there is a skills shortage list for you to look at. it lists all the occupations and how many points are awarded for eaach and what u need 2 do to get ur visa. But like someone else said there is only a 1 year visa (working holiday) and I don't know how u'd go about teaching somewhere different every 3 months. The visas are simple 2 do urself but can work out expensive with medicals and assessments etc. It is an amazing place thou and def worth it. Good luck!

Sorry you've got some duff info.

There is a working holiday visa that allows you to go Oz for a year and allows you work, a maximum of 3 months per employer.

You could also go out as a temporary resident, for this you have to find an employer and then apply for the visa.

Best thing contact Aussie house direct and they will have all the info & forms - DO NOT GO THROUGH ONE OF THESE VISA AGENTS - they will charge you a massive fee and you can easily do it yourself.

I thnk if you just want to work in OZ for a year or so (not live there forever), you can apply for a work visa, not emmigrate.

good on ya , at least you passed the main criteria, ie. speak, write , read English, unlike our nation which spends so much on translaters & interpreters. Good luck, its a lovely place to visit or stay.
