I bumped in to this interesting answer about Ouija boards. What do they mean by "cleasing before and after trying the Ouija board?" Do these things really work (Ouija Boards)? The only ones I've seen are made by Parker Bros.

Do you know where can I read about them? Any REAL website?

No one questions that an Easy Bake oven can bake a tin of brownies, but when you say you can contact the spirit realm with a sheet of cardboard and a plastic disk you're mocked? Do Ouija boards work? Yes. Even the ones made by Parker Bros.? Yes. Technically I'm sure you can make one all by your lonesome with the inside of a toilet paper roll and someone's retainer...and it'll probably work too!

However should you PLAY with Ouija boards? NO! Imagine if you will, a large glass aquarium with ten baby turtles in it. Imagine one of these turtles has a red spot on its shell, and you want to play with that one red spotted turtle. If you turn the aquarium on its side what do you think the chances are that ONLY that one turtle is going to come out? Slim to none. Three or four other turtles are definately going to get out and there's only a slight chance that the red spotted one will even NOTICE that a way out has suddenly materialized...Now apply this admittedly long analogy to the spirit realm...Playing with a Ouija board is rather like opening a door...and you don't know who's on the other side.

I have personally (in my misguided youth) messed about with these things, being a cocky little bugger...I mean honestly...Parker Brothers? What the hell do they know about the occult right? Wrong. The first time, my friend Zac and I were trying to contact the spirit of Kurt Cobain one year after his death. At first nothing happened, and we were all laughing and relaxing, thinking nothing was going to happen, and it was all a joke. Than the room got cold enough to cause goosebumps (in APRIL mind you), three light bulbs, in three different lamps burnt out one after the other, and we went from getting nothing to "recieving" very dark, almost threatening answers to our questions. Freaked out we "shut down" the board, cleansed it and ended up throwing the thing away.

Of course time has a way of healing all wounds (and making even the freakiest memory mighty tame). Much later, hanging out with friends, we somehow got onto the topic, and lo and behold here was another Ouija board...this time, we tried cleansing the board before we started (using salt and sage)...the results were not as...drastic as the first time I tried it. I will say however that our friend Brian asked it some pretty personal questions, such as what was his dream job (NASCAR pit crew) and would he ever get a chance to live that dream (NO). When asked why he wouldn't get that chance the entity spelled out D-E-A-T-H. Brian died in a car accident two years later.

I don't think that playing or not playing with the board would have changed the outcome...as a matter of fact, we had all forgotten about it until he died. But I haven't touched one since, and it definately cemented in my mind that Ouija boards are NOT toys...they can be dangerous or they can be benign, but they DO work and you CAN'T control who...or what you contact. Please be careful.

Some people believe that Ouija boards can communicate with spirits. Personally, I think its just a board/game that tempts mostly teenage people to mess around with trying to make each other think spirits are communicating with you. When I was about 13 we used to get one out a slumber parties. We would usually ask something lame like "which boy likes so and so" and then fake that the board spelled out the name of the weirdest or most unattractive guy at school. Mean, I know, we were 13. The cleansing part is that you should dispel the energy from the spirit contacted before using it again.

The only power it has is the power of suggestion. The only thing dangerous about the Ouija Board are the morons who think it's real.

You need to clean the energies off it with sage smoke or salt, or better yet keep some clear quartz crystals on the boards while you're using them.

Yes, they work. And no, people shouldn't use them. The format of the board allows too many "mischievous" spirits to use it.

Yes, Ouija boards really work. I don't know what that person is thinking. I'm a witch and I'll tell you not to play with them. They're dangerous.

according to some who use these boards they need to be properly prepared (cleansed ) by Prayers and Blessings before use or otherwise they will attract Evil Spirits and cause harm to the users.

I have seen things that make you run in the other way from the Ouija boards. DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH THEM.

They are a gateway to familiar spirits...and that's not a good thing. (You don't really know the spirit you are dealing with).

Anything to do with spirits that is not Holy is something I would stay away from.

Watch the movie "Witchboard" and you'll want to leave the Ouija Board (even the one Parker Bros. make,) alone.

I've heard many disturbing things about them.

The forces that can be activated by use of Ouija boards are very real, and very evil... most of the time "playing" with them will do nothing but raise the hair on your neck... but they can be very dangerous. The forces of evil are very real... do not mess with them.

I used one back in high school...didn't do anything. You and your friend's excitement is what moves the piece, if you take the thing seriously, like we did, nothing happens. What a rip off.
