My son will be 4 on Friday and still takes a nap every day (he NEEDS it LOL) and so do the other kids in my in-home daycare, but I have one child who will be 5 in January and is VERY active, I would say borderline hyper and he stays up until 11pm most nights and doesn't nap...isn't this a bit ridiculous?

I have a day care in my home and I firmly believe children need naps until the age of 5. All 5 of the children I watch are asleep at this moment, including my 4 year old who still takes an hour and a half to 2 hour nap everyday. He goes to bed at 8 pm, sleeps until 6:30 in the morning and besides learning that he could climb out his big boy bed and us having to make sure he stayed in it, took about a week, he has never had any sleep issues or problems. Kids need more sleep than adults realize, naps are a great thing and taking them away too soon can cause night time sleep issues to arise. I know it doesn't sound logical, but it's biological. I'm convinced that the majority of kids out there, infant to teenager, are sleep deprived. Sorry to sound all preachy, I'm just really passionate about kids and their sleep.

My son is 4.. and usually he will take a nap for about an hour sometimes an hour and a half midday.. usually around 1:30 or 2:00.. However some days he won't and I don't make him.. Those days he tends to go to bed earlier.. The only problem I have come across is when he doesn't take one he gets very irritable around 8:00 or so. Heck in Kindergarten they still give kids an hour nap... so why stop if it helps your child remain happier throughout the day. Plus it's a nice break for you as well. Do what ever you feel is best for your child and you.

My four year old goes to half day school in the afternoon, so she can't during the week. On the weekends and days off she does. She usually sleeps 1 to 2 hours. Sometimes if she's really tired after or before school she will take a short 45 minute nap.

My 3 year old no longer takes naps at home. They have nap time at her daycare, but she is allowed to lie on her cot quietly and play if she wants. I'm sure she naps some days and not others. Even though she doesn't take a nap anymore, she often dozes off if we drive in the car.

My three year old takes a nap if she is up at 7 or 8. She usually only sleeps for an hour and a half.

Yes our daughter takes a nap allmost every day for about an hour she is 3.1/2 trs old it does not make it hard for her to go to bed at night but your child may be different try to sneak in a nap when ever child looks or acts tired.

My daughter took a nap until about 4 1/2 Since then she is a major crab by dinner time so we lowered bed time about an hour and that really seems to help!

My five takes a nap for one to two hours each day. If she does not get her nap, she is a terror.
I am trying to cut down her nap to one hour so she will go to bed at a reasonable hour. But her daycare lets her nap for almost two hours...and I am such a wuss, I cannot tell her not to do it.
On hour is enough for her at five...but when she is six I anticipate an end to naps and an end to what little sanity I have left.

My son is just about 3 and he takes a nap like maybe once a week if I'm lucky. If there tired let them nap, but if there not I wouldn't push it
