I'm 5'7, 230lbs.. will weigh around 200lbs someday soon especially with boxing training.. but I need to know what gloves I should get for my first year of training at home with a bag.
I want to get everlast and I want to get some training gloves so that I can have some heavy padded gloves so I can be quick when I take them off.. but are they good for the bag too? Should I just not even worry about competition gloves for the time being?

dude, dont even buy competiton gloves...most events supply the gloves. You should by training gloves, and if you are that big, get 16oz, cuz if you spar, your gym will probably want you to spar with gloves that size. use just handwraps for hitting a speed bag, but training gloves for heavy bag

Stay away from Everlast, Century and any other glove you can purchase through a sporting goods store, they are garbage and you'll be spending money all over again in about a month.
You really don't want to get gloves that are two big, 16 ounce gloves are huge especially when you're 5'7, I don't care if you're 350 pounds the size will be just too big and if you're as serious as you sound (write) then you'll be down in weight in no time at all.

Go with 14 ounce or 12 ounce Grant Gloves (Grant Boxing.com) or Cleto Reyes (Available through Ringside.com) both are high quality gloves, they may cost you a few dollars more but we're talking about your hands here, one of your most important things so you really don't want to go too cheap.

Whichever brand you decide to go with, Grant or Reyes make sure you get training gloves not competition gloves the leather is more durable and thicker on training gloves. There is a wide selection of colors that you can choose from too, even one of kinds.

Good luck.

Go with Reyes or Grant you can't go wrong with those two products, as they are top notch. Stay away from sporting goods store stuff, Santana is right they are cheaply made and we're talking about your hands here. Protect them because if you don't you can develop arthritis and other pains in your hand when you get older.
