If I got into boxing but just to get good at boxing not really compete.. did a lot of bag and speed stuff and some sparring.. could I really ever get brain damage (Yeah I know there's always the chance but you know what I mean.. like how rare is it)

well, look at George Foreman....he named all of his kids George, because he figured he would become "punch drunk" (a kind of brain damage) and wanted to make sure he could remember his kids' names.

Not from training and probably not from sparring..headgear prevents brain damage, and when you spar you wear heavier gloves than when competing, so the punches will come at you slower and with more padding so they dont cause much damage.
