You can't turn it off, it turns on automatically. It has a twilight sensor at the left dashboard near the windshield. You can't turn it off unless you have a switch like the 2002 Camry, which you can turn the DRL off. The only way to remove the automatic headlight feature is to remove the relay that connects the DRL.

As you already know this feature is called Daytime Running Lights. It is a safety feature standard on most Toyotas.
I have a 2005 Camry and they only come on when I switch the headlights to the "auto" position. There is an "off" position too which deactivates the daytime running lights.
If your Corolla does't have the "off" position, try to turn the switch down one and see if it works.

I work at a Toyota dealership. The feature is called day time running lamps. They are not your nighttime headlamps they are a different system. Research has shown that they reduce accidents by 75%. In Canada every vehicle made must come standard with day time running lamps. You bought a car with a 5 star safety rating so you get all the safety features. Congratulations!!

You can always pull the bulbs out. But remember to put them back in before your inspection. The daytime running lights are seperate from the actual headlights

They're called daytime running lights. And a lot of countries have made them mandatory.
It's a safety precaution. Studies have shown you're less likely to get into an accident with daytime running lights as you're more visible to other vehicles. I suggest leaving them on.

They come on when the car is started and go off when the car is turned off. It's is a safety feature, so there is nothing you can do to have them go off when driving during daylight hours. Sorry.

maybe you can shine a flashlight directly on the sensor dome (left corner of dashboard) to make it think it's really really bright outside?
i have the 2005 corolla s and am annoyed by the same thing; however, it's standard in all new cars, now in the usa

We also have one, as soon as it goes into gear on comes the headlights.
Without messing with the electrical controls, (ie void warranttee) I think there is nothing you can do.
But it is a good car!
