How about a stuffed animal representation of his favorite? You say he likes elephants. How about a gift certificate of admission to the nearest zoo ... for them and their family .. and a guest ( perhaps you?) .. lol

Why not a safari set you can get them for really cheap at most dollar stores and I know ToysRUs has them too.
