I don't know. Here are some more interesting facts.

-No one has uncovered any of the cities mentioned in the Book of Mormon.

-No one has uncovered any artifacts related to the Book of Mormon.

-No one has found any inscriptions confirming the Book of Mormon.

-No one has identified any person, place, nation, or name mentioned in the book of Mormon.

This has been studied by the Smithsonian Institute and they say that archaeologists see "no direct connection between the archaeology of the New World and the subject matter of the book."

First let me refer you to the official church website: www.lds.org.

And second let me answer your question as best I can. I think your referring to The Book of Mormon which is a book a scripture that is a companion to the Bible that's why in the title under "The Book of Mormon" it says "Another Testament of Jesus Christ."

The book was translated from a set of gold plates (I'm assuming that's the copper tablets you're talking about), as gold was a metal which lasted through the ages, yet was pliable enough to easily write in.

Why does it say "and it came to pass" so much? that's a simple matter of linguistics, apparently in many Mayan ruins (thought to be the descendants of those in the Book of Mormon), the hieroglyphic character for "and it came to pass" was found to be very common. I don't know why they used that phrasing a lot, it was just in their linguistic culture to do so.

Peace and wives? I'm assuming is about polygamy, something the church stopped over a 100 years ago. Any one found practicing polygamy today is instantly excommunicated (which is the harshest punishment the church can give). Unfortunately there are still strange extremists that are NOT members of the church that are still trying to claim to be that confuse everybody about this.

Anyway, if I didn't answer your questions well enough, just go to the website and click on the link that says "basic beliefs" it gives a pretty good run down of everything.

Thanks

COPPER ???? Boy are cheapening the Mormons. The sheets of printing in some language that only Joe could read were of pure gold.
When Joe was finished translating them, the angel Moroni fluttered down from heaven and returned them to whoever handles things like that up there.

The Golden Tablets are nowhere to be found and there are various stories about what happened (maybe they were taken back to heaven) but they aren't around - period. Also missing are all the locations & places that the Book of Mormon discussions. Also missing is DNA evidence of Jewish lineage in any of the native people of America (another key point of the theology.) But I digress.

"It came to pass" - The book of Mormon has many verses which were directly lifted from the KJV of the Bible and when Joseph Smith wrote it, he tended to use the KJV (1611) English. Which is interesting, because he was born in 1805 and it would be more believable if he used the American language of the day to translate, but never mind...

As for "we don't do polygamy". Yes, it is forbidden and you will get excummunicated. They stopped this practice in a bid to gain statehood in the union. Their president/prophet got this fresh revelation during the debate for statehood.

But it is still in the doctrine as a part of Doctrines and Covenants, Section 132, which has never been rescinded and can be read for yourself on the official lds website. If/when polygamy comes back (not out of the question), I guarantee that it will become part of the Utah landscape openly.

I know mormons who are serious about their faith- it's still an integral belief and is required for the Celestial Kingdom. In the mean time, men do still have additional wives added to them (spiritual wives) which they are married to in the temple, but they don't actively take the wife with them or confirm it legally. This really "helps" the single women in the church and gives them a shot at being in the Celestial Kingdom with the opportuntiy to rule planets as gods with the husband.

I love the mormons, I really do. I just want to help share the straight facts. I think it's best to lay it all out there for debate, and not avoid key differences or controversial doctrine. Let's lay it all out there for the reader to understand.

My bias -I'm a Christian minister who has studied mormonism extensively and love my dear mormon friends.

God Bless -

The plates were not copper, but gold and they were returned to that same angel, Moroni, who had visited Joseph Smith and revealed the location of the buried plates.

It was not God's will to leave the plates behind but to recover them once the plates were fully translated.

Once you get past the "And it came to pass" you can better understand what those prophets of old had written about their culture, religion, and wars.

"Peace and wives?" What's that about?

Supposedly, an angel took the tablets back up to heaven.
